Historia
Over the last thirty years, conservative evangelicals have been moving to the Northwest of the United States, where they hope to resist the impact of secular modernity and to survive the breakdown of society that they anticipate. Their activity coincides with the promotion by prominent survivalist authors of a program of migration to the "American Redoubt," a region encompassing Idaho, Montana, parts of eastern Washington and Oregon, and Wyoming, as a haven in which to endure hostile social change or natural disaster and in which to build a new social order.

Quite interesting, useful, regardless of your own view of the ideas.

I found the analysis quite helpful. It moves quickly and covers quite a span of ideas, groups, and social commentary.

The story turned out to be much more compelling than I expected. And the performance was quite good. I would certainly recommend this.

Historia
The human race is at War with the "Buggers," an insect-like alien race. As Earth prepares to defend itself from total destruction at the hands of an inscrutable enemy, all focus is on the development of military geniuses who can fight such a war, and win. The long distances of interstellar space have given hope to the defenders of Earth--they have time to train these future commanders up from childhood, forging them into an irresistible force in the high orbital facility called the Battle School.

Must listen…

Such a great example of how an audible performance can make experience even better than reading it yourself… Which is not always the case.

Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Early on I wasn’t exactly sure if I was going to enjoy this book. But I was soon mesmerized - not only is the storyline fascinating, the history revealing, but the performance was spectacular.
