Historia
In 1995, a fire burned the mansion of Dr. Debora Green and Dr. Michael Farrar. Killed by the flames were 12-year-old Tim and his six-year-old sister Kelly. When Michael returned to the scene, he had lost more than his children and his home. Until that summer, they had it all - a happy marriage, successful medical practices, three beautiful children. Then they went on a trip to Peru. There, they met Celeste Walker, whose husband John was also a doctor. After that trip, nothing was the same again.

Stop performance
Revisado: 01-15-25
When will the narrators learn these are not plays. They are not to be “performed” I have been reading books for almost 70 years without anyone’s help. Just read the durn thing to me and let me determine voice inflections.

Historia
In some murder cases, the truth behind the most tragic of crimes crystallizes with relative ease. Not so with these fascinating accounts drawn from the personal files of Ann Rule. What happens when the case itself becomes an intractable puzzle, when clues are shrouded in smoke and mirrors, and when criminals skillfully evade law enforcement in a maddening cat-and-mouse chase? Even the most devoted true-crime listener won't predict the outcome of these truly baffling cases until the conclusions revealed in Ann Rule's marvelously insightful narrative.

Couldn’t get past the narration.
Revisado: 02-27-24
I don’t like to call the reading of books “performance”. It is not a play. When this reader first began her narration, I thought she was pretty good. However, after a few times of her mispronouncing mature, it really started getting annoying. She would say it as if it ended in TORE like I tore my shirt, but in fact, the word ends with ure like, I sure am hungry. So she constantly said ma tore for mature throughout the end of the book. I was so annoyed that I was ready to throw the book out the window because for some reason this book used that word a lot. Also I did not care for her changing her voice. Every time she was reading some thing in quotation marks. She had one voice she used for every male and one voice for every female. Totally not necessary. Please just read the book.

Historia
One wintery night on tiny, quiet Whidbey Island off the coast of Washington, Russ Douglas spent Christmas with his estranged wife, Brenna. He left Brenna Douglas's home in Langley on the morning of December 26, 2003 to run some errands. He didn't return - dead of gunshot to the head. The suspects included an aging beauty queen, her guitar-teacher lover, and Russell's widow, Brenna. With her trademark aplomb, Ann Rule unravels the fascinating story of a murder, a small town, and a number of potential killers.

Story was good. Maybe not as compelling as some of hers. Didn’t care for the narrator although she didn’t try to “perform” as most of them do. It’s a book, just read. It’s not a play, don’t perform. I wish Rule herself had recorded some of her books before she passed.

Historia
"A Rose for Her Grave" - the principal story of this collection - vividly recreates the cautionary tale of Randy Roth, a misogynistic sociopath from the Pacific Northwest whose rage was directed primarily at women and children. Addicted to his own greed, Roth exercised a powerful aura of control over his victims, using his ability to charm and boyish good looks to lower their defenses. By the time they saw the reality of the madness in his eyes, it was usually too late.

Stop “performing
Revisado: 11-01-23
This is a book, not a play, don’t want a performance. Just read. And if narrators only knew how silly they sound when they try to change their voice for different sex speaking. Don’t need it. I’m perfectly capable of imagining it myself. And please learn how to pronounce “mature”. Very irritating. Great stories though.

Historia
Alone with her new husband on a tiny Pacific atoll, a young woman, combing the beach, finds an odd aluminum container washed up out of the lagoon, and beside it on the sand something glitters: a gold tooth in a scorched human skull. The investigation that follows uncovers an extraordinarily complex and puzzling true-crime story. Only Vincent Bugliosi, who recounted his successful prosecution of mass murderer Charles Manson in the best seller Helter Skelter, was able to draw together the hundreds of conflicting details of the mystery and reconstruct what really happened....

Hate so called performance.
Revisado: 10-18-23
This is a book. Not a play. I hate when narrators try to “perform”. Do they know how stupid they sound when trying to sound like a girl ?? I just want it read to me. I can imagine my own voice inflections and whatnot. If I wanted a performance I would go see a play.

Very poor reading
Revisado: 09-14-23
To begin with let me say from the start I do not like a so-called performance. This is a book not a play, so I don’t want it performed. Just read it to me. That being said this performance was terrible she did not speak the way teen speak. She made them sound incredibly whiny no matter what they were saying. Her emphasis was way off on everything, and when she read the text that the teens sent back-and-forth to each other they weren’t anything like any team I had ever heard speak. It was so incredibly bad that it ruined the whole book for me and I couldn’t wait for it to end. I will never get another book with this narrator.

Ann Rule was working on the biggest story of her career, tracking the trail of victims left by a brutal serial killer. Little did this future best-selling author know that the savage slayer she was hunting was the young man she counted among her closest friends. Everyone's picture of a natural winner, Ted Bundy was a bright, charming, and handsome man with a promising future as an attorney. But on January 24, 1989 Bundy was executed for the murders of three young women - and had confessed to taking the lives of at least thirty-five more women from coast to coast.

Revisado: 02-28-23
I don’t like stories where the reader feels like they have to perform. It is a book not a play. If I wanted a performance, I would go see a play. And if they only knew how ridiculous they sound when they try to change voices. I don’t even do that when I’m reading to myself. Just read the book to me while I go about doing other things. Just read.

Performance?
Revisado: 08-03-22
I don’t know why publishers feel the reader has to perform. It is a book not a play. If I wanted a performance I would go to the theater. I don’t like How the reader changes her voice for each character. I am perfectly capable of imagining the different voices of each person. Neither do I need the voice inflection as again I have my own imagination and I can hear it in my head as it is read. Please just read me the book. And in this book in particular I don’t like the voices that she chose or their way that she thinks they spoke. It kind of ruined the listening for me.
