Michelle wrote, read, and offered a piece of her life in this book beautifully. I laughed(A LOT), related, teared up, and cheered for her... as I always have. Thank You♥️✊🏽

Historia
Richard Pryor was arguably the single most influential performer of the second half of the twentieth century, and certainly he was the most successful black actor/comedian ever. Controversial and somewhat enigmatic in his lifetime, Pryor's performances opened up a new world of possibilities, merging fantasy with angry reality in a way that wasn't just new - it was heretofore unthinkable. His childhood in Peoria, Illinois, was spent just trying to survive.

....A 🌹 blooming from the concrete
Revisado: 06-23-21
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It's brutally beautiful. I can't believe we got such great work from Mr. Pryor as long as we did, considering all he went and put himself through. I could visualize everything that I was listening to and I really appreciate that. Tragic story. Awesome listen!

Historia
From Minneapolis to Louisville, to Portland, Kenosha, and Washington, DC, America’s reckoning with its unmet promises on race and class is at a boiling point not seen since the 1960s. While conversations around pathways to progress take place on social media and cable TV, history tells us that meaningful change only comes with radical legislation and boots-on-the-ground activism. Here, Mallory shares her unique personal experience building coalitions, speaking truth to power, and winning over hearts and minds in the struggle for shared prosperity and safety.

Talk About A Call To Action!...
Revisado: 06-03-21
I have found joy in discovering a "hidden gem" leader, Tamika Mallory, during a time when I swear history is unfortunately repeating itself right in front of our eyes.
This book lays out clear and concise guidelines to how we overcome in this day and time and I appreciate it. State of Emergency reminds me of a line 2Pac once quoted, "You might be deep in the game but you got the rules twisted" because I feel like SOMEONE needed to say ALL that Tamika said in the way in which she said it.
I thoroughly enjoyed Cardi and Miss Angela's welcoming to readers of all background, as we chose to embark on this journey that Tamika graciously took us on. Her experience is comparable to mine as a black woman in this world and I appreciate not only the acknowledgement of what's wrong but also suggestions of ways to make much needed change.
God Bless and protect Tamika ALWAYS for she is a chosen one. God Bless and Protect Until Freedom for the ENTIRE team is worthy of every blessing and all protection as they continue the ongoing fight of Freedom and Justice for ALL✊🏽

Historia
Aretha Franklin began life as the golden daughter of a progressive and promiscuous Baptist preacher. Raised without her mother, she was a gospel prodigy who gave birth to two sons in her teens and left them and her native Detroit for New York, where she struggled to find her true voice. It was not until 1967, when a white Jewish producer insisted she return to her gospel-soul roots, that fame and fortune finally came via "Respect" and a rapidfire string of hits.

Queen Aretha was thorough.
Storytellers voices were phenomenal...I don't know the sisters, brother, or Wexler but you can't tell me I didn't know what they sounded like 🤣
I enjoyed the 2wk long journey I took to hear this story. I enjoyed using Tidal to research Ms. Franklin's catalog. I enjoyed comparing this book to the docuseries Genius: Respect... on Lifetime. I just enjoyed the whole experience I created, inspired by an AWESOME read, relentless author, and personal interest in a national treasure.
Thank You♥️✊🏽
