A must listen for those interested in the history of WWI. excellent reader, and comprehensive treatment of the personalities, political systems, politics and beliefs of the many players. There are no simple answers here, just the long and tedious of a civilization about to destroy itself. It's probably worth several listens to soak it all in.

Super Detailed, But Eye - Opening

Extremely thorough and detailed examination of the strengths and weaknesses off the imperial military in all of its aspects. Debunks many beliefs about the evolution of German war plans and strategy, or lack thereof, leading up to 1914 and after. Ties military successes and failures to greater societal currents as well. We'll read and organized but you really have to be a military history nerd (like me) to plow through it. Riveting if you are deep into military history. Not recommended for the casual listener.

What is intelligence?

I only understand it if I can create it. excellent review of the development of the brain through 5 critical steps, and then relating how intelligence might be recreated as AI or not. Excellent reader. Written in plain English with numerous examples, but in enough depth and complexity as to require a relisten of some chapters. From single cell to the human brain, and from Roomba to ChatGPS. Great book.

New light on oft ignored story.

Excellent reader, nails difficult Spanish names. Clear and concise narrative of events, fair or equally devastating appraisal of major players, excellent analysis of military, ideological, political and geopolitical circumstances and the results. This was a bitter civil war, full of atrocities and incompetence, heroes and villains. Makes me want to bone up on recent post Franco history in Spain. Do they remember? Do they hate? Have they reconciled and forgiven?

Excellent Narrative, Excellent Reader

Covers the 700 year coexistence of two massive empires in a story often overlooked in the histories of Rome. Famous characters me and go -- Pompeii, Julius Caesar, Crassus, Mark Antony, Heraklius and the Eastern Empire generals and Emperors, not mention the many Seleucid, Parthian and Sassanian rulers. I really enjoyed this book.

Focused World History

Historical overview focusing on central Asia, with emphasis on interface between the east and the Europe. Often contains insights I had not considered before. Especially noteworthy: Deep dive into the role of Persia/Iran from 1800s on. This area is often ignored or down played, but very interesting and important. Pretty much ignores roles of China and India but is in keeping with the silk roads analogy and the narrative ends in about 2014 so ten years old. But interesting take on critical oft ignored history.

The Inexplicable Explained

Detailed analysis if the fall of Germany after the July 1944 attempt to kill Hitler. Why did the nation continue to the bitter end when it was clear it was over? No stone is left unturned here. And it is horrible. Great reader too.

Colonialism and it's Aftermath

Good summary of British rule in India focusing on cultural, economic and social dynamics exploited by the British and how their centuries of rule forever changed India and not in good ways. Real damning critique of British rule and then neglect as they scrambled to get out before facing the results of their abuse.
