Historia
After solving a string of murders and getting used to living with a snarky ghost, Gethsemane Brown tries to rest easy. But in this second book in the series, her roomie disappears, her landlord decides to sell her cottage to a developer, and her brother-in-law comes to visit. The ever-resourceful African American musician and expatriate scrambles to call her spectral roomie back from beyond and to find a way to save the cottage from destruction, but those concerns take a backseat when her brother-in-law is accused of stealing a valuable antique.

Entertaining and Cozy
Revisado: 12-19-20
Not great literature but very readable and entertaining. I would say this is light reading with low emotional involvement and is pretty “cozy.” This is perfect pandemic diversion! All in all, it was worth my credit.

Historia
In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure, and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

Buddhist monk Wayan Bagus lost his island of solitude and wants to get it back. The island was about 200 miles northeast of Samoa. It had a mountain, beaches, a rainforest, and a volcano. And now it's gone. Poof! Vanished without a trace. Brilliant and boyishly charming Emerson Knight likes nothing better than solving an unsolvable, improbable mystery. And finding a missing island is better than Christmas morning in the Knight household.

If you’ve read Stephanie Plum novels, you’ve read this. Characters are the same just with different names. A mindless summer read I guess.

Too Cute by Half
Revisado: 06-03-20
While Alexander Kane has a talent for comedy, he over does it to the point of being irritating. It seems every line in this book had to be a joke which kept the story and character development from working. Bahni Turpin’s performance was the only thing that made tis book work at all. She was able to make the jokes “work” to some degree, but I think I could tell she was getting tired of trying to be funny as the book got near the end. Ms. Turpin is so good that I selected my next book with her as the narrator because, if she could do as well as she did with this book, imagine what she could do with a good book!

Evil vs. Good, Pride vs. Divine Trust
Revisado: 04-13-19
The creation of a believable world with believable characters was a joy to “live in” for several weeks. The length of the book is daunting, but it serves to make this the type of book where you grow to care about the characters and miss them when the book is finished. Ken Follett is a master!
John Lee’s narration was excellent, sensitive and clearly defined the voices of each character. Now on to the second in the series!

Almost Like Visiting Flavia!
Revisado: 03-15-19
While this novel reminds me of the Flavia DeLuce novels, it stands on its own as a fine story with interesting, well developed character. I do wish this were a series because I would like to visit Maeve again and again. While this may be a young adult novel, it is just as interesting for adults who enjoy the wonder of childhood. As always, Jane Entwistle makes the book twice as entertaining as it would have been in written form.

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Historia
In the wake of an unthinkable family tragedy, 12-year-old Flavia de Luce is struggling to fill her empty days. For a needed escape, Dogger, the loyal family servant, suggests a boating trip for Flavia and her two older sisters. Something grazes her fingers as she dangles them in the water. She clamps down on the object, imagining herself Ernest Hemingway battling a marlin, and pulls up what she expects will be a giant fish. But in Flavia's grip is something far better: a human head, attached to a human body.

The Bad Part of this Book
Revisado: 02-12-18
The horrible thing about this book is that it’s over! I will miss Flavia and all the other characters so much. The world of Flavia is really “a fine and private place” for all of us who love the clever turn of phrase and joy of a well crafted mystery. Alan Bradley does it again! I can’t wait for the next installment.
