Historia
A soul-stirring new musical conceived by New York Times best-selling novelist Jodi Picoult and playwright Timothy Allen McDonald, Breathe places listeners inside the walls of five homes during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filled with songs and vignettes that examine new relationships, rekindling flames, parenting, racial reckoning, and grief during a pandemic, this incredibly timely world premiere—written and produced online in 2020 in real-time as events unfolded—reflects the very topics that weighed on the hearts and minds of Americans.

Historia
Vinh Chung was born in South Vietnam, just eight months after it fell to the communists in 1975. His family was wealthy, controlling a rice-milling empire worth millions; but within months of the communist takeover, the Chungs lost everything and were reduced to abject poverty. Knowing that their children would have no future under the new government, the Chungs decided to flee the country. In 1979, they joined the legendary “boat people” and sailed into the South China Sea, despite knowing that an estimated two hundred thousand of their countrymen had already perished at the hands of brutal pirates and violent seas.

FASCINATING TELLING OF GRIT AND DETERMINATION
Revisado: 01-07-22
From start to finish the hand of God is seen through the soulful recalling of life-shaping events in lives of the Chung family. The story is told with honesty, not covering up disappointments but, rather, exposing and overcoming them. Listening to this story leaves me again grateful for the blessing of being born in America. Highly recommended for listeners who enjoy memoirs and the lessons gleaned from the lives of others’ experiences.

I enjoyed learning the back story of the man who has enhanced my understanding of the Holy Scriptures through his relatable illustrations. It is reassuring to know Pastor Petersen reached spiritual maturity despite human temptations.

Informative and Intriguing
Revisado: 08-04-20
I learned a lot about this time in the history of Seattle, the city of my birth. I did not know about the struggles of the Chinese immigrants who came so far, worked so hard, and were so disrespected. The author puts faces to the victims of racial hatred. If only history wouldn’t keep repeating itself.

Historia
As a child growing up in North Korea, Hyeonseo Lee was one of millions trapped by a secretive and brutal communist regime. Her home on the border with China gave her some exposure to the world beyond the confines of the Hermit Kingdom and, as the famine of the 1990s struck, she began to wonder, question and realise that she had been brainwashed her entire life. Given the repression, poverty and starvation she witnessed surely her country could not be, as she had been told, 'the best on the planet'?

Historia
At once profoundly personal and far-reaching, Exit Interview with My Grandmother serves as a meditation on the beginning of a young woman’s life and the series of questions that arise from examining love, loss, family, memory, and death. Moving between cities and centuries, Meyersohn probes her family's Jewish history and her grandparents' relationships in part to decipher her own young queer relationships, but also to examine how we ought to behave in the face of a world riddled with uncertainty and doubt.

More about author’s sexuality than Grandma’s wisdom
Revisado: 05-03-20
I was expecting to garner wisdom from the author’s grandmother than being constantly reminded that the author was a gay woman with a string of failed relationships. I did enjoy the author’s talents at prose, however.

Revisado: 03-03-20
I learned so much about the affect World War II had on Northern Italy. This story puts faces and names to atrocities and personalized the Nazi terrorism. Many parts are told in endearing ways that warm the heart to the contrasting good in others. Highly recommend this book.
