Historia
Clan of the Cave Bear is the first novel in Jean M. Auel's magnificent best-selling epic of life 35,000 years ago. Leave the 21st century and go back to Ice Age Europe. Follow Ayla, a Cro-Magnon child who loses her parents in an earthquake and is adopted by a tribe of Neanderthal, the Clan. See how the Clan's wary suspicion is gradually transformed into acceptance of this girl, so different from them, under the guidance of its medicine woman, Iza, and its wise holy man, Creb.

A journey back in time

I found this story absolutely capitaving. I've visited many cave dwelling where there is evidence of of Neanderthal and other ancients peoples. This story brought it all to life in the most vivid way. Loved it! Loved the narration too!

Historia
Sarajevo, spring 1992. Each night, nationalist gangs erect barricades, splitting the diverse city into ethnic enclaves; each morning, the residents – whether Muslim, Croat or Serb – push the makeshift barriers aside. When violence finally spills over, Zora, an artist and teacher, sends her husband and elderly mother to safety with her daughter in England. Reluctant to believe that hostilities will last more than a handful of weeks, she stays behind while the city falls under siege.

Thin and too British
Revisado: 01-31-24
There was something compelling about this story. Just enough to get me to the end inspite of the very British narrator's accent, which I felt really spoiled the authenticity. Even if none of the characters are narrated with Slav accents at the very least the names couldn't have been pronounced correctly. The emphasis in Serbo Croat is on the first syllable. DUbravka, not duBRAVka. This is such a simple thing to get right with a bit of research and unfortunately the British accent and manner of speaking was so strong I forgot I was in Sarajevo.
The story was a very intimate insider account that was spoiled by the over dramatic British style performance. I have nothing accent a good British accent but in this case I sometimes felt like I was experiencing war in London not Sarajevo.

Soap
Revisado: 10-25-23
Boring, soapy, superficial… had to give up. Certainly not literature. School girl writing. Sorry. Even the reader who is not bad, couldn’t save it. I felt like I was 11 being read a cheesy bed time story by my sister m.

Raw and real
Revisado: 06-19-23
I felt deeply moved by Ricky’s story. Yes, it was difficult to get used to her voice but once I got past that I felt like I’d entered into a private relationship with her. Sometimes it’s so real I could swear she’s gone off script. She’s raw, real and gritty, and her story like her music touched my soul.

Historia
Born just 15 months apart, Subhash and Udayan Mitra are inseparable brothers, one often mistaken for the other in the Calcutta neighborhood where they grow up. But they are also opposites, with gravely different futures ahead. It is the 1960s, and Udayan - charismatic and impulsive - finds himself drawn to the Naxalite movement, a rebellion waged to eradicate inequity and poverty; he will give everything, risk all, for what he believes. Subhash, the dutiful son, does not share his brother’s political passion; he leaves home to pursue a life of scientific research in a quiet, coastal corner of America.

Wonderful
Revisado: 05-15-23
Breathtaking and delicate. Beautifully read with much nuance. I’m glad I stayed with it after the initial chapter or two that were obviously setting the political scene of the time and felt a little slow. An intimate and beautiful human story of loss, regret, guilt and new beginnings emerges gently. I loved it.

Wearing a backpack loaded with bricks is the perfect image to describe how most people feel. We all know how it goes. Your house is full of things you either bought yourself, you got gifted, or you inherited because you thought one day you might need it. And yet, the canvas you once bought with the intention to fill your free time with more creative tasks remains empty. The older we get, the more clutter we accumulate. Fortunately, our Swedish friends discovered a method which makes organizing your possessions a piece of cake.

Robot reader
Revisado: 03-08-22
I can’t get through this because of the dreadful reading. A weird sing song tonality that puts stress on random word taking away from the meaning of the content. I don’t think I’ll manage to finish the book as a result, but so far all I can think when listening is ‘boring, boring, boring” - perhaps it’s both the reading and the content but I can’t tell.

Historia
Marie Colvin was glamorous, hard-drinking, braver than the boys, with a troubled and rackety personal life. With fierce compassion and honesty, she reported from the most dangerous places in the world, fractured by conflict and genocide, going in further and staying longer than anyone else. In Sri Lanka in 2001, Marie was hit by a grenade and lost the sight in her left eye - resulting in her trademark eye patch - and in 2012 she was killed in Syria. Like her hero, the legendary reporter Martha Gellhorn, she sought to bear witness to the horrifying truths of war..

Dull reading
Revisado: 11-28-18
I was excited to download this book but sadly I’m going to give up listening to it.
The author reads it but sadly her voice and tone is really monotonous. She also swallows a lot of words with I hurt find irksome. It’s a bit like someone taking turns to read aloud in high school.
Sorry. Would have been better read by a voice actor.
I haven’t listened to enough to rate the story yet.
