Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Poorly written story
Revisado: 02-11-23
This is a manipulated poorly written story. Lots of foul language to top it off, does that make it better. Big waste of time. It was picked for my bookclub and cancelled when we got into it and complained to the woman who picked it without reading or listening to it. Huge waste of time and a credit. I'm going to try to get my credit back.

Historia
In 1541, the brutal conquistador Gonzalo Pizarro and his well-born lieutenant Francisco Orellana set off from Quito in search of La Canela, South America's rumored Land of Cinnamon, and the fabled El Dorado, "the golden man". Driving an enormous retinue of mercenaries, enslaved natives, horses, hunting dogs, and other animals across the Andes, they watched their proud expedition begin to disintegrate even before they descended into the nightmarish jungle, following the course of a powerful river.

So engaging
Revisado: 11-05-21
I loved learning about this history of the world. I really had not heard this story before. The suffering and deprivation these Spanish explorers went through is unimaginable by modern standards. Fascinating.

Historia
Walker & Daughter is Georgia Walker's little yarn shop, tucked into a quiet storefront on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The Friday Night Knitting Club is the ad hoc creation of some of Georgia's regulars, who stroll into the shop looking for tips on knitting and end up finding much, much more. Once a week, they gather to work on their latest projects and to chat - and occasionally clash - over their stories of love, life, and everything in between.

I am a knitter, so I had hope. This book is terribly written and so predictable, at least the first two hours. I gave up.

Delightful tale.
Revisado: 11-27-18
Maestro, the potbellied pig, is a delightful story of a young girl who is inspired by a night at the symphony to become a professional musician. She also bonds with her pet potbellied pig, whom she names Maestro. The story is enriched with gorgeous harp music and a few violin excerpts. Young people will find the story delightful. Perhaps they too will be captured by the beautiful harp playing and desire to become a musician as well.

This short book gave me great insight into those that I teach who seem to struggle. It will help me have new ideas on how to help them. Anyone who works with a lot of people should read this.

I'm headed to Russia in a few months. I have read several Russian novels over the course of my life but wanted to learn more. This teacher was so pleasant to listen to. I learned a lot, and will read more Russian novels. You don't need to be a scholar to enjoy this course.
