Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Long Winded and Unnecessary
Revisado: 02-22-25
This book started out great. The prose was beautifully crafted. The story is very tragic and emotional.
The first half as in the start and the Vegas sections where very good but the book is filled with so much detail. The amount of details are not justified since they add so little to the story. A lot of the characters just come and go and most of the character development occurs off screen.
Then there is the characters dialogue which is completely unnecessary, long, and repetitive.
Then the plot loses its self essentially within the verbose writing.
But I did enjoy the characters traits and personalities. They are well developed (when they are on page) and I can relate to them even Theo who is very much a pessimist and very nihilistic. He went through a very traumatic event that left scarred and devastated which left him lost.

Amusing but not convincing

The least impressive among Brown's works. Not what I expected from a great novelist like Dan Brown

Historia
In this irreverent and illuminating audiobook, acclaimed writer and scientist Leonard Mlodinow shows us how randomness, chance, and probability reveal a tremendous amount about our daily lives, and how we misunderstand the significance of everything from a casual conversation to a major financial setback. As a result, successes and failures in life are often attributed to clear and obvious causes, when in actuality they are more profoundly influenced by chance.

It changes your perception of randomness in your life. The statistical portions are a bit hard to grasp but not for too long.

Horrible, too long, the worst Baldacci ever. It was very disappointing to me. Not recommended

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.
