Another good story

I enjoyed it like I've enjoyed all the others. My only issue, as was with all the others, are the suffixes after all the names. I have an issue with them both because they're unbelievably annoying to me and they're incredibly unrealistic. Language doesn't evolve to have such things. it's like adding creature to the end of every animal's name or City to the end of every place. like tiger creature, ant creature, Atlanta City, Miami city. Or naming people Dan male or Susie female. Even if for some reason a culture arose that practiced this, over time people would just stop using the unnecessary words.Anyway, just a creative decision I wish hadn't been made.

kind of ridiculous

I listened to the first book of this series years ago and re-listened to it after watching the first season of the TV show. I enjoyed it both times so I got this one and boy was I disappointed. it's full of ridiculous dialogue and logical leaps. the author spends half a chapter describing the physics of ballistics and then has reacher shoot a gun out of a moving helicopter at a moving vehicle by just aiming a little higher. surely you can think of something that's realistic while still being exciting. things like this, and this book's full of them, are a cop out. This is for teenage boys to get excited about before they know anything about real life. I won't waste any time on another one.

One of the most poorly constructed stories ever

It's over redeeming quality is that if you listen to audiobooks while driving like I do, the time will fly while you yell at the radio at every ridiculous concoction of events. I was stunned to hear in the author's notes that there were beta readers. I assume that means they author gave it to other white people he knew from his white neighborhood in his white town that he's never left. This book is what I would expect from someone that learned everything they know about the world from movies.

But it'll keep you awake.

"if three Americans and four Russians can't solve this, who can?" Ridiculous.

Never read a book with so many people puking.

Enjoyed it

It's a good story and interesting take on the time traveler genre. I look forward to the next book.

Hopefully they'll research it a bit better as there were some noticeable inaccuracies. For example, the Korean War ended in 1953, so I'm not sure how Flint (sp?) can do combat duty there in 1962. Also, $300 a month for rent in SLO in 1958?!? There were a couple other things I can't remember right now, but these two were the standouts and should have been caught by somebody.

Entertaining but frustrating

The naming conventions probably work better in print. But the -ahs & -aks and others really detract and are too similar sounding to differentiate from one another sufficiently.

Also, the only black guy being a childhood drug dealer with a dad he didn't know and a drug addicts mother that matures into an entertainer and vagabond is a little too much the stereotypical view of a middle class white suburbanite.

getting old

this series is getting too repetitive. also the app prevents my keyboard from automatically capitalizing the first word in a sentence.

Can't finish it

It's my kind of subject, and I like just about everything, so it should be tough to keep me from the end. But there is just SO much banter and conversation about every supposition imaginable to the must minute detail. Plus there's to many people with to many names and their voices all sound similar so it's very hard to keep track of everyone.

The kicker for me was the way the gang is portrayed. The stereotypical depictions are so obviously from the perspective of a white suburbanite who's never driven through an urban area with his doors unlocked much less stopped and got to know anybody. The narrator's lack of depth didn't help with this either.

Entering enough I guess.

I know it's sci-fi, but good sci-fi to me, if not realistic, can at least be imagined to be possible. Many of these stores drift too far from that for me. Chimps spontaneously developing religious beliefs and rituals with no prior knowledge of religion is the one that stands out. Spent too much time arguing with the ridiculousness of it for it to be entertaining.

The repeated self-aggrandizement in the introduction to almost every introduction became a bit much as well.
