Historia
In the dark, wintry highlands of Lochdubh, Scotland, where the local Calvinist element resists the secular trimmings of Christmas, the spirit of old Saint Nick is about as welcome as a flat tire on a deserted road. Nor is crime taking a holiday, as Constable Hamish Macbeth soon finds himself protecting an unhappy girl, unlocking the secrets of a frightened old woman, and retrieving some stolen holiday goods. Now the lanky lawman must use all his Highland charm and detective skills to make things right.

Too much quip, not enough mystery
Revisado: 09-13-22
Listened for 2 hours and am just confused, dead body moving around and main character more interested in marriage than in reporting dead body to police. Author just seems to write lines so that he/she can stick in quippy southern jargon. I cannot even listen to anymore.

The charming Minnesota town of Mayville Heights is hosting a music festival, and the whole place is bustling with musicians and tourists. Kathleen is looking forward to taking in some fabulous performances - and her two cats, Owen and Hercules, are looking forward to taking in some fabulous sardine crackers. But then the trio stumbles across a dead body by the river. The victim is a close friend - who also happens to be a lookalike of a popular cabaret singer set to perform at the festival. Who could have wanted to harm this innocent girl? Was it a case of mistaken identity?

10% mystery, 70% drama, 20% fluff
Revisado: 09-13-22
I like my mystery to have more mystery. I have listened to 2 in this series and despised both, got through by listening on 1.5 speed and only listened to the end because I am cheap. The story is more drama than mystery, the "magical cats" trope is just silly. Don't get me wrong, I love cozy mysteries for their homey vibe but the mystery should still take up the majority of the book, not seem like an after thought. To top it off the narrator makes the main character sound pretentious and snooty.

Silly, fluffy, romantic

Not enough mystery, too much silly and romance. If you like that kind of thing then you may like this. For me it was not enough mystery.

The Fall Festival is in full swing. Civil War reenactors from three counties are partaking in Blossom Valley's tribute to John Brown. Blue Ridge Mountain foliage is in full bloom. And best of all is Jacob Potter's pumpkin farm where his hay rides, piglet races, pumpkin picking, and corn maze are time-honored draws for locals and tourists alike. That's why it's such a shock when Mr. Potter is found dead, hidden under a tarp in the back of Winnie's pickup truck.

Not a lot of mystery
Revisado: 09-02-21
First the good. The narrator was excellent. No complaints and lots of kudos to her!
Now the bad. This is the second Cider Shop Mystery I have listened to. They have a lot of filling and little mystery. I do enjoy the ambience presented at the shop but the meat and bones are just not there. Too much romance, little mystery. I just kept waiting for more.

A lot of fluff
Revisado: 02-16-20
The book could have been condensed a lot. Four hours in and only one murder and NO advance to the mystery. A little more heaving and lusting after the main guy than is my taste but not horrible. I may read another.

Nothing heats up Old Town quite like the annual Pie Festival, and this year is no exception, especially since Sophie's professional rival, Natasha Smith, is barred from participating. Sophie, meanwhile, has been asked to oversee the pie eating contest. But the drama really rolls out when celebrity judge, Patsy Lee Presley, host of television's most popular cooking show, bites the crust during the competition, and Sophie's friends are suspected of the crime. As the folks of Old Town dish, the tough truth about Patsy's meteoric rise to domestic stardom begins to leak.

Abby Kimball has just moved to New England with her boyfriend and is trying to settle in, but the experience is proving to be quite unsettling, to say the least. While on a tour of local historic homes, Abby witnesses a family scene that leaves her gasping for breath - because the family has been dead for nearly a century. Another haunting episode follows, and another, until it seems to Abby that everything she touches is drawing her in, calling to her from the past.

Not a mystery
Revisado: 05-03-19
NOT a mystery. Not sure where this fits. There was no mystery, no dead bodies, a little romance (too much for me since I thought I was buying a mystery). Don't recommend if you are looking for a mystery. Narrator did ok with what she had to work with.
