Historia
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

Amazing narration of appalling story
Revisado: 11-29-23
I could not stop listening this amazing yet much appalling real story of how nazism, fascism or authoritarianism in general up to our days, infects and poisons so many people; people in power and ignorants. Rachel Maddow’s delivery is delightful and entertaining. Kept me listening for two days.

Historia
When the once-mighty city of Rome was sacked by barbarians in 410 and lay in ruins, it signaled the end of an era—and the beginning of a thousand years of profound transformation. In a gripping narrative bursting with big names—from St Augustine and Attila the Hun to the Prophet Muhammad and Eleanor of Aquitaine—Dan Jones charges through the history of the Middle Ages. Powers and Thrones takes listeners on a journey through an emerging Europe, the great capitals of late Antiquity, as well as the influential cities of the Islamic West.

Brilliantly entertaining
Revisado: 11-07-23
Dan Jones not only is a solid historian but as importantly he is a wonderful narrator of stories. Stories which he masterfully builds based on historical facts and thus traps me non-endlessly.

Historia
Who is Satan in the New Testament, and what is the evil that he represents? In this groundbreaking book, Elaine Pagels, Princeton's distinguished historian of religion, traces the evolution of Satan from its origins in the Hebrew Bible, where Satan is at first merely obstructive, to the New Testament, where Satan becomes the Prince of Darkness, the bitter enemy of God and man, evil incarnate. In The Origin of Satan, Pagels shows that the four Christian gospels tell two very different stories.

Valuable, entertaining account of early Christian times
Revisado: 06-30-23
The performance is delightful. While Satan is recurrently referred to, it’s character or substance to first century C.E. peoples is not. Which I would have liked. However the account of early Christians, Romans, pagans and Jews of the beginnings of the common era is very rich.

Historia
This explosive work of history unearths clues that finally demonstrate the truth about one of the world's great religions: that it was born out of the conflict between the Romans and messianic Jews who fought a bitter war with each other during the first century. The Romans employed a tactic they routinely used to conquer and absorb other nations: they grafted their imperial rule onto the religion of the conquered.

Why the Christian churches are inherently antisemitic
Revisado: 06-20-23
Exhausting and systematic review of hard pieces of evidence that at face value contribute to the understanding of the development of Western history during the Common Era. It makes so much sense and yet it is backed by factual elements and not articles of faith or requiring the blind belief of “the profound mysteries of our Lord”. I now understand much clearly the last two millennia of widespread antisemitism in the West: it is embedded in the creation of European modern history backed by its God “representatives on earth” the Christian rulers.
