Well researched book, but some incorrect conclusions

I gave this book 5 stars because I think it’s well researched and highlights one aspect of the story very well. However, as someone who’s intimately involved in the space, I can say with certainty that some of the conclusions drawn from the research are not entirely accurate and are one sided. While I acknowledge that there are secret societies who are involved in darker occult practices, contact with extraterrestrials and extra-dimensionals, and who are intent on world domination, there are also those who are developing these same talents and awarenesses with the intention of assisting humanity during these times. As with any tool, it can and will be used for both good and evil.

Good book...needs a PDF

Any additional comments?

This is a fairly good introductory book on the subject, but there are many places where having illustrations would've been helpful. The audio book needs an accompanying PDF. Also, the narrator has a thick accent, which ordinarily I wouldn't have minded, but he pronounces words in a way that reminds me of Elmer Fudd from the Looney Tunes cartoons. I found him very hard to listen to as a result.

Not much value as a business book

What would have made Business Stripped Bare better?

I've read several of Richard's books and enjoyed them very much. This one covers much of the same content, but it's more of a chronology of Richard's life and entrepreneurial projects, than a book containing much helpful wisdom, inspiration, or ideas that you can use in your own life. But what I found most disappointing, was that the final third of the book is focused primarily on his political and moral views regarding global warming and imposing vaccine reform in Africa. I found this to deviate substantially from the remainder of the book and to not offer anything of value to the reader.

Would you ever listen to anything by Richard Branson again?

Depends on the content

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I really didn't feel that this book contributed any more to my life than the others that I've read from Richard, and in some ways, it took away from them and diminished my opinion of him.

Any additional comments?

If you've read other books by Richard, you probably wont find this one worthwhile. And even if you haven't I'd recommend reading the others rather than this one.

Better for employees of Zappos

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this for employees, prospective employees, or investors of Zappos. Half of this book is about Tony Hsieh's journey toward building the world class brand of Zappos. There is some valuable information and information for the business or entrepreneur in these parts of the book. Most of the rest of the book is better suited for understanding the company Zappos itself, including employee mindsets, how the acquisition with Amazon will affect employees and shareholders, employee culture and values, etc. I found much of this to lack any real value to someone who is not a Zappos insider.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have related the lessons about culture and happiness, as suggested by the book title, more toward the reader and how he or she could use it to improve their own business. I would also have shared more wisdom about what it was like to grow a world class brand, the challenges, the highlights, and so on. By comparison, the book Shoe Dog by Phil Knight, which highlighted the rise of the Nike brand, was written in a much more accessible way for a reader of books of this genre.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the first part of the book that highlighted his journey and the building of the Zappos brand.

Was Delivering Happiness worth the listening time?

The first half was worth the listening time. I found the middle of the book to not be worthwhile, and increased the listening speed to 2x to get past it, in the hope that something better was on the other side.

Any additional comments?

Overall it wasn't a bad book. I did enjoy parts of it. I think the title was misleading, and it could've been executed better. However, it did make me appreciate the Zappos brand more. I am already a Zappos customer and it was interesting to see behind the curtain of what has made my customer experience great over the years.

Highly Biased With Very Little Science

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I purchased this book expecting a balanced, intelligent, rational, scientific look at immunity and the effectiveness or risks of vaccines. What I got was a book that is a highly biased single person's opinion and anecdotal stories about why everyone should be vaccinated. It made me wonder whether it was financed by the pharmaceutical industry. The book presents all of the arguments against vaccines, and then shares stories and viewpoints that make it seem like these original arguments are unfounded. But there is very little rational explanation or scientific data to support the assertions that the various arguments against vaccines are incorrect. This book reads like a well thought out marketing piece for vaccines.

Would you ever listen to anything by Eula Biss again?

No

Which scene was your favorite?

None

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The narrator did a nice job and had a pleasant voice.

Any additional comments?

This book does not really contribute much, if any, value to the conversation or understanding of the topics of immunity or vaccines.

If you already believe that vaccination is the right choice for you, then this book won't give you any more concrete information to reinforce your belief. It may, however, help you feel better about your decision simply from a psychological reinforcement standpoint.

If you are on the fence about vaccination, and are looking for some real information and scientific research upon which to base your decision of whether or not to vaccinate, this book will not be of any help to you. It is simply one person's opinion based on anecdotal information and stories.
