Historia
For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it. America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

Good narration
Revisado: 04-11-24
The author did a great narration and kept the deadly content as entertaining as possible.
The author has vast knowledge and all his theories are plausible, but in my opinion HIGHLY unlikely.
Its more fiction that all the cards will fall as depicted. The world is made up of humans and we are the most unpredictable species.
Things will never get to the point of scarcity before someone pulls a stunt. China is not going to fizzle out, and theres no way Brazil or Argentina rise up.
Sure America has the youth, and the best natural resources, but we also have political issues, raging Corporate greed, laziness and entitlement in spades.
I dont know how it all plays out, his theories are smart and rational but not likely. I dont have any better theories other than someone launches and ruins it all.

Historia
When unforeseen circumstances during an innovative—and unsanctioned—commercial asteroid-mining mission leave two crew members stranded, those who make it back must engineer a rescue, all while navigating a shifting web of global political alliances and renewed Cold War tensions. With Earth governments consumed by the ravages of climate change and unable to take the risks necessary to make rapid progress in space, the crew must build their own next-gen spacecraft capable of mounting a rescue in time for the asteroid's next swing by Earth.

Historia
In 1982, at the age of just 23 and halfway through her architecture studies, Elspeth Beard left her family and friends in London and set off on a 35,000-mile solo adventure around the world on her 1974 BMW R60/6. Reeling from a recent breakup and with only limited savings from her pub job, a tent, a few clothes, and some tools, all packed on the back of her bike, she was determined to prove herself. She had ridden bikes since her teens and was well-traveled. But nothing could prepare her for what lay ahead.

This will re enforce your faith in God
Revisado: 12-12-23
This is a story of a very naive and in-experienced young woman who despite making every mistake possible, managed to make it around the world by the Grace of God. This was during a time when it was not really possible to have the knowledge and tech to do this lime its done today. It was very frustrating to listen to the mistakes, one after another but the sheer determination and will of Elspeth kept me listening to hear how she managed and what problem she would get into next.
My takeaway was that she had no business starting or finishing this trip and was lucky to be alive. This just reminds me how God takes care of us and especially those who take action and have sheer determination.
If she made it back then, anyone can do it today as long as you have the sheer will and determination. It also reminds me how I never want to travel this way. I will never visit India, Pakistan, Turkey, or any of the developing countries. I love to ride, travel and discover. I dont have any desire to deal with the madness of these underdeveloped nations and people. I can ride and see natures beauty just fine in the developed world. Im one of those guys that loves riding and nature, but not cultures.
This book and Ted Simons just re-enforce that I am not seeking culture traveling on a bike. I seek natures beauty and great roads and trails.
This was a good book and aside from the beginning when she was writing about her upbringing and family it was not boring. To Elspeth, congrats for making the trip and proving its possible to do great things with just sheer determination.

Well written and organized
Revisado: 11-21-23
If you have ZERO experience with motorcycles, or are the typical video game, ipad raised snowflake and no absolutely nothing about mechanical things or powerports, then you NEED this book. It can take you from nitwit squid to a person who might not die on the first bike trip. Being a long time motorcyclist, over 40 years, I was slightly bored through Ch 5. The book was well written and well narrated so I listened on. Ch 6 and 7 were where I got interested and learned a thing or two. If youre a millennial without a Daddy who taught you how to ride and maintain bikes then you need this book. If your just a dude that has dreamed of riding motorcycles and has zero clue or anyone to help them, you need this book. If you are like me and like everything about motorcycles for most of your life and need a decent listen then get this book.
I think this book will save a few lives and save a few trips when things go sideways.

Dont get the raving reviews?
Revisado: 08-28-23
This was hard to finish. Once I sped it up to 1.5 it was a little better. Theres no science, evidence, facts or specificity here. Its just a bunch of analogy, conjecture and randomness. If youre this then...if youre that then...it was all over the place and maybe Im not in a personal situation where I would lean on anything in this book. Its only a bit over 2 hours, but I want that time back, even at 1.5x.

Its a struggle
Revisado: 08-11-23
The first and last chapters were great. Everything in the middle was a giant overload of data. I realize why so much data and examples were used to drive a point home but it was a bit much. I had a hard time finishing and I did it over several long drives. I feel the author tried to spread the blame across many parties, and in the end said its the Us against Them problem. I tend to believe the author is left leaning, although 90% of the issues cited were part of the Democratic Party agenda. He also had a few jabs at Conservatives, the media and Education. So our problem is simple, everything is the problem.
Its a useful book if you need convincing that all the ultra liberal and woke policies are the problems. In the end he said be optimistic, but was also leaning on the belief that most people will soon wake up and be fed up, but I doubt it, and its kinda late. Theres more pain to come.
Dont regret listening to this book but it could have been shorter and a bit more to the point.

Historia
In 2020, the American economy suffered the biggest financial collapse in history. But while Main Street suffered like never before, the stock market continued to reach new highs. How could this be? The answer is that government had slapped oppressive restrictions on small businesses while propping up Wall Street and engineering a historic consolidation of power and wealth. In The War on Small Business, entrepreneur Carol Roth unveils the many abuses of power inflicted on small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Overall a decent read if you are of the same opinion
Revisado: 08-21-21
If you are of the same opinion as the author you will have plenty of material to digest. He does present a very valid and well researched book which I and anyone with an open mind will find very little fault with. His case for cronyism is accurate and well argued. The book however is very one sided towards the issue of UBI and Minimum wage and peoples abilities to compete in the world of high education, big markets, inflation and technology. We just cant keep more than half of humanity unable to keep up while the rest just keep getting richer and stronger. He doesnt emphasis the negatives of peak capitalism and focuses on Cronyism being the only fault with Capitalism and Socialism. The truth is as long as humans exist, so will Cronyism so neither system is viable. No clear solution or alternate system was hinted. Just try to stop Cronyism, Central Management, and regulation and support all business big or small. Sounds good but thats what we started with and eventually got us here. Its a very enlightening story and tells a fact based story of the last few years and is very gloomy and not very hopeful. I almost wanted to bail out, but did not.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Simply fantastic
Revisado: 01-04-21
I have always been a fan, and now I am even more so and with a full understanding why. This was a great book, whether its 100% factual or not its simply a great story and a great lesson for life. I wish there was a short version of the Notes to Self and Prescriptions that I could listen to on loop to drill them in. I will listen to this one a few more times, which I never do...
Thanks Matthew
