Historia
Ever since I was old enough to hold a blade, I knew I wanted to become a Magical Knight. For years, I trained, waiting for the day I would receive a grimoire of my own. But magic can neither be controlled nor predicted and when it was my turn to take the test… I failed. I'm Null, a person born without a core. With this, all my plans have been upended, and the future lies veiled in mystery. However, a chance encounter one evening challenges everything I'd come to believe. As it turns out, I do possess a certain kind of magic.

I am not the target audience.
Revisado: 11-11-24
Okay, first of all, the premise is promising. I was invested in the plot, and really hoped it would go places.
However, this book is a fantasy written for incels. The main character starts out as a promising protagonist, but his personality is inconsistent. One minute he's wanting to do good in the world and make a difference, the next he's killing many people and is very shallow about it. He quickly becomes someone you can't root for, and honestly, someone I dislike.
The villains, such as they were, were one demensional. Very Saturday morning cartoon, they want him for his power and they're corrupt, so he's fine just killing them. No real hesitation, no moral struggle.
Resources and help just tumble into his lap, he really doesn't work for anything, and setbacks are literally momentary. There are no consequences to his actions that don't make things better for him.
His love interest is unrealistically devoted to him, and they can't keep their hands off each other. There is some effort to explain why, but really it serves no purpose and is just gross. She showers him in compliments, and is just there to stroke his ego, among other things. I'd rather read a book about her dumping this jerk and having adventures in her mage school with her little summoned golem as a quirky sidekick.
I really did find myself hoping she either died or betrayed him so the story could move on, but when it finally does move on she not only sacrifices everything to come with, he picks up another chick who is just another excuse to stroke his ego. Add to that his devoted girlfriend is not only okay with it but encouraging him to take on mistresses. I just can't.
Like I said in the title to my review, this book has an audience, but it is definitely not me. I honestly couldn't finish it.
The voice actor understood the assignment, she did her job well.

Not my cup of tea.
Revisado: 11-29-21
I can kinda see what the author was wanting to craft here, but the endless monologuing of internal struggles and abrupt changes in direction by the protagonists were a little much for me.
I wanted to know how the book ended, so it is an engaging story. I think my attention span is a little short for the author's writing style.
I did think the premise of the story was interesting and did enjoy learning about the world, and I definitely caught the social commentary.
The woman reading it did a very good job, I enjoyed her delivery and her voice.

Historia
Before John Glenn orbited the Earth or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, a group of dedicated female mathematicians known as "human computers" used pencils, slide rules, and adding machines to calculate the numbers that would launch rockets and astronauts into space. Among these problem solvers were a group of exceptionally talented African American women, some of the brightest minds of their generation.

An amazing perspective.

I loved this book.
It gives an engaging narrative of events and people from a time and culture I had very little knowledge of. I really feel like I understand this time in history more, and maybe even understand a bit more of the challenges women of color faced and still face.
When my daughters are older, I will definitely insist they read it.

Historia
Most of us grow up having always known to touch wood or cross our fingers, and what happens when a princess kisses a frog or a boy pulls a sword from a stone, yet sadly, some of these things are now beginning to be forgotten. Legends, myths, and fairy tales: our world is made up of the stories we told ourselves about where we came from and how we got there. It is the same on Discworld, except that beings which on Earth are creatures of the imagination - like vampires, trolls, witches, and possibly, gods - are real, alive and in some cases kicking on the Disc.

Everything I ever wanted.
Revisado: 09-16-18
This book is everything I ever wanted and never knew I needed. it shares the folklore of the disk, yes, but also shares quite a bit of folklore, specifically British folk lore, that as an American I have heard snatches of, but never knew the whole of. Thank you Terry, thank you Jacqueline.
