once again LJ Shen has done a fabulous job of making me feel every ounce of heartbreak she puts her characters through. This author does amazing character development, and within a few pages you are hooked. I made the mistake of listening to this book while I was at work and had to have a bad "allergy" day to explain my red eyes and runny nose. It all works out as it should, but man do you feel every bump in their road. This book makes thank you/no thank you a thing!

Terrible narrator

This might have been a better story then my reviews show but the narrator was so bad it took away from it. The narrator talks to fast and his cadence is all over the map. I found it very difficult to discern between the characters, as he would change his tone more for what was being said than for who was speaking. I had wanted to listen to this entire series, but all the books have the same narrator.

This is a good story that balances the sex and action very well. Unfortunately the narrator has the habit of reading every line like it's a question. For me this made it very distracting to listen to.

heart wrenching & perfect

I have read (and reread) all of Jeanne St. James books and this is my favorite. The way she captures the emotion between our main characters brought me to tears. She is such a talented author, and never fails to drag all the feels right from the page into your heart.

yes the narrator is that bad!

I listened to 19 minutes of this book. I am sorry I wasted a credit on it. The narration is terrible - imagine the bad guys from 101 Dalmatians reading sex scenes to you aloud. It just creeper me out, and the female voice just had me picturing a 50's bar maid that had been rode hard and put up wet. I have downloaded the Kindle version, as many people have told me the story is actually very good.

terrible narrator

The narrator was awful. very.lonotone, and made it impossible to track which character was speaking. It completely took away from the story and I gave up trying to listing after 30 minutes.

This might be a good story but the cadence and tone of the narrator completely put me off. I struggled through 4 chapters and then gave up. It is possibly just me, but when the narrator was reading the female parts, it caused me to picture them all as transvestites.

You will cry while hearing this book

no one writes raw emotion like Shen. These people have the worst luck in the world, and you feel every excruciating moment right along with them. I should know better than to listen to these books while at work, but once I start, I can't put it down. Love this series, can't wait for the next book.

Not as bad as I feared

I bought this audio book, and then waited three weeks to listen to it. I had read a bunch of reviews and was sure it was going to be another book of erotica disguised as a detective novel. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. There were a few sex scenes that I skipped through, however there was still some story left after moving over them. It was nice to have a bit of a time jump, as some of the books only seem to cover a matter of hours in Anita's life. This was more Nicholas Sparks than Sam Spade, we waded through a lot of emotional baggage, but it was not unbearable. I do miss the mystery of the early books, we knew who was the bad guy was as soon as the character was introduced. Then everything kind of resolved itself on a hail of bullets, and it really could have been anyone saving the day, it did not have to be our favorite heroine, she brought nothing to that fight. Also, there is no way the Edward/Ted we all l ow and love would put up with his treatment in the book. You get a sense there has been a lot of shift on the authors reality during the course of the last 2 books, and it has effected her characters. They are not necessarily bad books, but they are no longer the same type of books this series started out as. I miss the old Anita, but everyone grows up and changes.

the author spent so much time giving minute detail and trying to be clever that I found myself not listening. I often reached for the fast forward button in Hope's of getting to a point. I finished the book and can't for the life of me figure out why.
