Historia
Personal Organizing Coach Marin Rose argues that we're all in a toxic relationship with our stuff and that we've got some serious thinking to do before we can expect to make lasting, positive change. In this book, she explores the common emotional barriers to people reducing consumption and ownership, from personal feelings of anxiety, guilt, and regret, to our faith in the omnipresent American illusion that stuff is a direct path to happiness.

Over the last 3 yrs I have managed to downsize our 5 bedroom house for our 4 kids to the point that we are planning to travel the country for a year in an RV. It was made possible by the seed this short little book planted. I've now read (listened) to it about 6 times. The emotional connection to our stuff is really what it's about. Being a super intentional owner of our stuff is key. Thank you, Marin, for this book!!!!

She sees that these cultures don’t have the same problems with children that Western parents do.

Historia
For some kids, school offers a positive and engaging experience. For others, it's a boring, stressful, and frustrating waste of time. If your child is in the second category, why keep tormenting them? Instead, why not help them find an educational environment where they feel genuinely motivated, excited, and empowered? In this eye-opening book, Blake Boles makes the case for leaving conventional school and taking one of the many alternative paths through K-12 that exist today.

Balanced and informational book
Revisado: 06-28-21
I had been reading books about unconventional schooling, but up until now they were very one-sided. I feel the author did an excellent job of summarizing evidence on both sides and then giving his take on it based on experience. I even appreciated his advice on parenting despite not being a parent, and perhaps even especially because he's not a parent because he offers a third party perspective. if you are considering walking away from schooling with your kid this book is a library of information that I haven't found elsewhere.

Historia
This enduring classic of educational thought offers teachers and parents deep, original insight into the nature of early learning. John Holt was the first to make clear that, for small children, "learning is as natural as breathing." In this delightful yet profound book, he looks at how we learn to talk, to read, to count, and to reason, and how we can nurture and encourage these natural abilities in our children.

Slow, but worth it
Revisado: 05-23-21
It's a bit slow with a lot of anecdotal stories, but the stories are so symbolic and generalizable that you know there is deep truth and that research data is not necessary. The slow parts are worth it to get to where he relates the stories to the foundations of how children (and I think adults, too) learn.

Historia
We often sell ourselves short with self-limiting beliefs, but most of us would be amazed and delighted to know that we do have something special - our distinctive passions and talents - to offer. And what if I told you that what you have to give will also enable you to live a life of true contentment? How is that possible? It happens when you embrace and curate your own simply luxurious life. We tend to not realize the capacity of our full potential and settle for what society has deemed acceptable.

I will definitely listen to more than once
Revisado: 07-10-20
I appreciate that the book was read by the author and don't mind her putting her own inflections on what she is reading as she is allowed to take the liberty to do so as the author. This book offers some similarities to her last book but still new material within the same theme of living luxuriously. It was so packed with good information and although some themes repeat themselves in different sections of the book, I feel it puts the emphasis on certain behaviors that deserve it. This book is a summary of a lifetime of reading books on bettering oneself and presented to the reader in a pleasurable succinct way considering how much material was reviewed for the writing of this book. Loved it!
