David Rintoul's reading gave life to Stephen Walker's riveting story. Probably one of the best of the 150+ books I've listened to on Audible. Awesome. I highly recommend the selection.

Historia
The moving, untold family story behind Abraham Zapruder's film footage of the Kennedy assassination and its lasting impact on our world. Abraham Zapruder didn't know when he ran home to grab his video camera on November 22, 1963 that this single spontaneous decision would change his family's life for generations to come. Originally intended as a home movie of President Kennedy's motorcade, Zapruder's film of the JFK assassination is now shown in every American history class, included in Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit questions, and referenced in novels and films.

Abe's grand-daughter skillfully wove the family saga over the assassination home movie with the legal/government struggles and contemporary public/research issuses and opinions into a page-turning story. That Ms Zapruder narrated it herself gave it a genuine emotional quality to the family struggles over many years - the icing on the cake. Strongly recommend...

Historia
They began operations out of England in the spring of '43. They flew their Flying Fortresses almost daily against strategic targets in Europe in the name of freedom. Their astonishing courage and appalling losses earned them the name that resounds in the annals of aerial warfare and made the "Bloody Hundredth" a legend. Harry H. Crosby—soon to be portrayed by Anthony Boyle in the miniseries Masters of the Air developed by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg—arrived with the very first crews, and left with the very last.

Both riveting and enlightening
Revisado: 02-25-24
Having started to watch "Mastrrs of the Air," I knew I had to get this selection. The reality of the CGI of the video is one thing, the close personal view of the real events told by Harry Crosby is quite another. From one full #10 bag to the next you got to know the rigors and terror of flying strategic B-17 missions over Western Europe and Germany well before any US forces ever put one boot on a beach in Normandy. The camaraderie and personalities against the profound losses was both intriguing and sorrowful. As a retired AF officer, these guys in my mind were the heros who made the Air Force what it is today...this is a great read...

Historia
"Call me Ishmael." Thus starts the greatest American novel. Melville said himself that he wanted to write "a mighty book about a mighty theme" and so he did. It is a story of one man's obsessive revenge-journey against the white whale, Moby-Dick, who injured him in an earlier meeting. Woven into the story of the last journey of The Pequod is a mesh of philosophy, rumination, religion, history, and a mass of information about whaling through the ages.

if I'd only known how good this classic was,..
Revisado: 08-07-23
I can say that I successfully escaped having to read this work of Melville, never being in an American Lit course in high school or college that required it. I wore it as a badge of honor that I didn't have to muddle through what I was told was a dry and boring example of American Liturature in general. I cast it aside as I did those of Hawthorne, Steinbeck, Fitzgerald, Hemingway and many other of allke.....
And then on a whim I listened to this rendition..
I found that Melville was a true intellectual and knowledgable storyteller. His weaving tale in short and oft times divergent chapters was spell binding and this recording gave the story life....I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this classic. I only wish I hadn't avoided it for so long...

Historia
Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II, which begins with The Winds of War and continues here in War and Remembrance, stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

Historia
Between February 1864 and April 1865, 41,000 Union prisoners of war were taken to the stockade at Anderson Station, Georgia, where nearly 13,000 of them died. Most contemporary accounts placed the blame for the tragedy squarely on the shoulders of the Confederates who administered the prison or on a conspiracy of higher-ranking officials.

Unfortunately it's true...
Revisado: 10-11-16
A well researched and well written book...Puts many myths to bed regarding this unfortunately scourge in American history (though numerous other Union and Confederate prison canes were not much better). It's not the fiction/partial non-fiction of Kanter's "Andersonville"...though the reality is no less engrossing.
I recommend this to Civil War history buffs...it will not disappoint...

Acclaimed as the greatest novel ever written about the War Between the States, this searing Pulitzer Prize-winning book captures all the glory and shame of America's most tragic conflict in the vivid, crowded world of Andersonville, and the people who lived outside its barricades. Based on the author's extensive research and nearly 25 years in the making, MacKinlay Kantor's best-selling masterwork tells the heartbreaking story of the notorious Georgia prison where 50,000 Northern soldiers suffered.

50 years after my mother cried while reading this book, I finally listened and it was as rich and emotional as she described it. I have read numerous non-fictional accounts of the atrocities of Andersonville and had thought that no fiction could touch the realities of history....I was wrong...This book is a must read for any Civil War enthusiast who wishes deeper insight and emotion to the darker parts of that conflict...I was enthralled...

Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

I actually liked the music track....
Revisado: 08-18-16
After all the critical reviews regarding the music track, I thought I too would be bothered. With the exception of a loud guitar rift, I thought the music increased the drama; it did not detract. I enjoyed Eli's narration -- a classic actor...I enjoyed the story and thought it was up to King's standard. I recommend it...

I enjoyed this and the other 2 books in the Bill Hodges series. I found that all three started slow with sms character confusion, however, once they got moving they were exciting and entertaining. This book was more fantasy
than the others, but it reinforced the malevolence of the series antagonist. The character mix of Bill with Jerome and Holly was outstanding...
I recommend this book and the entire series to both detective tale lovers and King aficionados...worth your time...
