Historia
Three women, united by love and kinship, struggle to conform to the social norms of the times in which they live. In 1931 Katherine Henderson leaves behind her small town in Kansas and the marriage proposal of a local boy to live on her own and work at the Sears & Roebuck glove counter in Chicago. There she meets Annie - a bold, outspoken feminist who challenges Katherine's idea of who she thinks she is and what she thinks she wants in life.

Other reviewer‘s complained about the narrator. I don’t understand why I thought the narration went well with the characters. Glad I didn’t let those reviews stop me from buying this book.

Best Viet Nam era story
Revisado: 12-06-22
Katherine Forrest is one of my favorite authors. I appreciate lesbian novels that have substance. This story is an excellent exploration of what it was like for some of the young people who served. Wouldn't need to be a lesbian to appreciate these characters.

Historia
Olivia Bennett is on the tenure track at Cornell University, the resident expert on Southern women writers. After moving to upstate New York from Atlanta, she falls in love with and purchases an old, run-down farmhouse. The only catch: she knows nothing about renovating a house, taking care of land, or snow. Joss Bauer is a New York native who grew up in her family's construction business. She has a soft spot for old houses, but no patience for overpaid debutantes who want to play at country living.

Okay....
Revisado: 08-19-20
The beginning of the story was thin. Characters were not very interesting but that got better. In the end I enjoyed the story. The narrator was not good, too high pitched then when voicing a male sounded fake.

Elmwood Springs, Missouri, is a small town like any other, but something strange is happening out at the cemetery. Still Meadows, as it's called, is anything but still. Funny and profound, this novel in the tradition of Flagg's Can't Wait to Get to Heaven and Thornton Wilder's Our Town deals with universal themes of heaven and earth and everything in between, as Flagg tells a surprising story of life, afterlife, and the mysterious goings-on of ordinary people.
