Historia
At once a Gothic thriller, a passionate romance, and a cautionary tale about the dangers of science, Frankenstein tells the story of committed science student Victor Frankenstein. Obsessed with discovering "the cause of generation and life" and "bestowing animation upon lifeless matter", Frankenstein assembles a human being from stolen body parts. However, upon bringing it to life, he recoils in horror at the creature's hideousness.

Gripping.
Revisado: 06-22-24
Gripping story. Impeccable narration. A moving classic work that has made me quite curious about the state of discussions around science and bioethics in our day.

Historia
The book probes the possible roles of four brothers in the unresolved murder of their father, Fyodor Karamazov. At the same time, it carefully explores the personalities and inclinations of the brothers themselves. Their psyches together represent the full spectrum of human nature, the continuum of faith and doubt. Ultimately, this novel seeks to understand the real meaning of faith and existence and includes much beneficial philosophical and spiritual discussion that moves the reader towards faith.

Vance in a league by himself.
Revisado: 06-17-24
Vance is a maestro. Vance brings every work he reads to life. He has fueled my interest on Classics. The dance between the author and the performer in audio books is fundamental to the success of the whole thing. Vance pours all of himself to the book and thus drapes the author in gold and sprays them with roses, all to the benefit of the listener.

Historia
It's not just that many pastors feel overwhelmed and stressed out; many have lost their way. With the risk of burnout at an all-time high, what pastors need is not just a new leadership strategy, but a new framework for ministry - one that will help them move from survival to flourishing. In this audiobook, Tom Nelson looks to the biblical image of the shepherd leader in response to the contemporary context. If pastors are to lead congregations, then they must first learn what it means to be led by the Good Shepherd.

The Narration is unfortunately impossible
Revisado: 01-10-23
I came into this audio book with very high excitement and expectation. I had heard Tom talking about it on a podcast (Working with Dan Dorian) recently and immediately came here looking for it. I haven't got through chapter 1 as it is, but I just simply can't bear the narration. I have tried playing around with the speeds, slower and faster.... It is just impossible.
I am usually not so farcey about the narration, in fact usually very gracious and typically excited to hear different accents and voices, but I hope never to come across this narrator again.
Now I'm quite frustrated because I still want to hear the content, but it just can't be through this narrator. 😭

Historia
Why has land reform been such a failure in South Africa? Will expropriation without compensation solve the problem? What can be done to get the land programme back on track? Tembeka Ngcukaitobi tackles these questions and more. Going back in history, he shows how Africans’ communal land ownership was used by colonial rulers to deny that Africans owned the land at all. He explores the effect of the Land Acts, Bantustans and forced removals. And he considers the ANC’s policies on land throughout the 20th century, during the negotiations of the 1990s, and in government.

Wonderful Story, Excellently Read

Well written story by Paula McLain, but Hillary Huber's performance takes it to a level above "just good". Glad I chose this Original on Audible.
