Best Emily Henry Book so far

The only reason I gave this book for stars for performance is that I am tired of hearing Julia Whelan’s voice and I think the book would have sounded better with a different voice direction to distinguish it from all the other Emily Henry books she narrates.

Apart from that, this was my favorite book so far. I’ve ready Happy Place and People We Meet on Vacation, and Book Lovers feels like the smartest of them. I appreciate the trope of it, it’s quite funny even. Characters are more likeable here, albeit Nora is clearly in need of therapy. I liked that this was not just two people with communication issues.

The narration is okay. The story, however, is absurdly boring. Arthur Less, a gay white middle-aged man is miserable, and thus made me miserable to listen to. He feels like a navel-gazing guy who won’t let go of his past or self-pity. Prose isn’t bad, but I don’t see the Pulitzer.

The satire I loved from the first book is lost in this soap opera-esque sequel. Too much happens with characters I didn’t really care about—Kitty Pong, for some unknown reason—and the Astrid storyline is the only thing that made me want to finish the book.

Now I’m considering reading the third just to know what happens with Astrid and hoping we get more Nick & Rachel time.

Heard about this on a New York Times article where the author spoke about Garner’s poignant descriptions and scenes. Maybe it would’ve been better read in paper. Not sure if the accent, the cadence or the repetition of the “he said/she said,” but it was a pain to listen to this book. I kept getting lost and rewinding to the beginning of the chapter. I’d guess it’s a short read on paper as well, which maybe I’ll give a try to later on.

Taylor Jenkins Reid does a brilliant job at finding an innovative way to tell an age-old story. Told in E! True Hollywood Story format, Daisy Jones and The Six is captivating and a can’t-put-down book. 10/10 recommend.

I’m just in chapter 3 so far but the narrator’s drone-y voice is lulling me to sleep. Story seems meh, just what I wanted to stop thinking and not pay much attention.

No matter the color of your skin, this is a relevant read for anyone and a necessary one for any Mexican.
Tenoch writes from his reality, which is in turn the reality of millions. We’ve grown up in a country we deem as “classist” as he very well mentions, but he goes deeper into deconstructing this classism that is also deeply rooted in a racism that we deny.

With nice script-like descriptions of scenes from his life, he narrates his book in a way that should challenge any reader.
