Better to read the book instead of listening
Revisado: 04-21-25
I really did not like the performance. The accents were done well, but the narrator was like listening to a 10th grader and the special effects were distracting. I couldn't even hear half of the dialogue because they used an echo effect that made the voices terribly quiet. I got the gist of the story, and I love Gail Carriger's work, but no more dramatizations, please.

Historia
The Wizard's Council of Tarador was supposed to tell young Koren Bladewell that he is a wizard. They were supposed to tell everyone that he is not a jinx, that all the bad things that happen around him are because he can't control the power inside him, power he doesn't know about. The people of his village, even his parents, are afraid of him, afraid he is cursed. That he is a dangerous, evil jinx.

Interesting plot twists
Revisado: 05-26-24
When good people lie to try and protect someone they love it ends badly. The misfortune that befalls the protagonist is heart-wrenching. Without giving away any spoilers, I recommend this book for its excellent characters and its intriguing plot.
What it has: Wizards, a princess, a medieval fantasy setting, court intrigue. An all around good read. I feel I must get ahold of book 2 in this trilogy and see where the story goes.

It's a beginning...
Revisado: 03-07-23
The story has some interesting ideas and lore, but it really is a version of Beauty and the Beast. Several other reviews said Feyre is Beauty, but she was the Beast and Tamlin the Beauty in my opinion. He had the riches, but she was the unrefined human that only saw hatred and anger.
Any ways, I agree that several of the characters were blasé, but I feel like the author is trying and will improve with time.
Same with the narrator. She was robotic at the beginning, but got a little more life as the story went on. I don't know if this is early in her career or not, but I think there is a lot of potential there. She certainly is not as bad as several other audiobooks I've turned off before finishing the first chapter.
I say good for the author and narrator for their efforts and I would call this a successful step in the right direction.
