TMZ Meets Fictional Memoir
Revisado: 01-31-25
Brian Scala writes sports, spice, and second chances, but the real heart of his work is in fictional memoirs. Through his prose, Brian manages to create believable characters who face real-world challenges. Being Made is his debut novel, and he always says it isn't great, but that's just imposter syndrome. If you love detailed histories of sports careers, the feeling of old-school TMZ interviews, and MTV music's Behind the Scenes, give Being Made a try. It's worth the read. 🙂 Better yet, give it a listen. Paige Reisenfeld totally brought his characters to life.

Now that her nightmare is over, Vanna and I are free to live our happily ever after like I promised her we would. Even if I have to kill for it. Those were my words to her. Words I intend to live up to. Though, as we have come to learn, the past rarely stays buried. Not even when it's left to rot in the Sonoran Desert.

You guys, I was SO not prepared for the ending of this book. At first I was shocked, then I was angry, then I was like, “Yeah, that tracks.” 😂 Another awesome book by Jennifer Saviano. I can’t wait to read Legion!

The story begins with Dean at rock bottom, on the verge of giving up after having lost his marriage and about to be thrown out of his club. Absolutely Amazing!
Revisado: 04-22-24
Honestly, I have no words. This book was absolutely amazing. I’ve never read MC anything before. This one blew me away. Dean may be my new book boyfriend. Yummy, caring, tough and brave — what more could you ask for? Already queued up book two. The narrators were also incredible! I’ve met Paige in real life and she was so convincing, I forgot she wasn’t Vanna. And, PJ nailed Dean. Excellent listen!

Historia
"Mom seems off." Her brother's words echo in Sam Montgomery's ear as she turns onto the quiet North Carolina street where their mother lives alone. She brushes the thought away as she climbs the front steps. Sam's excited for this rare extended visit, and looking forward to nights with just the two of them, drinking boxed wine, watching murder mystery shows, and guessing who the killer is long before the characters figure it out. But stepping inside, she quickly realizes home isn’t what it used to be.

Cozy and Quick
Revisado: 08-28-23
I didn’t know what to expect going into the this book, so my experience is going in blind. Keep in mind that I typically read super dark and twisted stuff, so my opinion is a bit out of place, as this is not my usual genre. The things I liked and did not like may not be the same for others who prefer cozier tales. I do love all things supernatural though, so that part was spot on. I have mixed feelings about this book, so let’s break it down into pros and cons.
Pros:
- Good narrator: I listened to this book through Audible. The narrator had good inflections that felt casual at the right times and serious at others. That’s always good. Also, the reading was not slow like some audiobooks are. I like that.
- Interesting premise: The metal detector concept was different. I haven’t read many books like that before.
- Unique characters: The main character is definitely unique. He tells the story himself, so he can be unreliable at times and you end up wanting him to figure things out that you probably already have.
- Cozy Paranormal Mystery: Serious issues are being addressed, but the tension created in the story isn’t stressful. I’m not a huge “cozy” read person, but if you are, this will be a good fit.
- Quick Read: If you’re looking for something short and fun, this is a great fit.
- Open-ended: Leaves room for a sequel, and the MC even says there will be a sequel.
Cons:
- Sometimes repetitive: The MC takes us through almost every small detail of his days. Some things could be skipped. Ex: The main character eats a lot, and it doesn’t really connect much with the story except to his sense of humor.
- Humor: This one was a bit too humorous for me, but as I said, I like dark and twisted with high stakes and serious tension.
- I couldn’t connect with the narrator: He talks like a teenager but is actually an adult. This makes the book feel more YA, but it handles mature content. That threw me off a bit.
Overall, I think this would be a great read for someone who’s looking for something short, supernatural, funny, and cozy. 😊 I’d rate it a 3.5 if Amazon would hurry up and update their scale!

Historia
When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother's house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be? Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more - Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants...until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself.

Excellent Story
Revisado: 08-24-23
This book was so much fun. I love how T. Kingfisher mixes humor in with the bizarre. The books are never scary, but they’re consistently intriguing and entertaining. My only criticism is that I’m still not 100% sure what the Twisted Ones/Effigies are, but I have an idea. I don’t honestly need to know because the book was soooo much fun to listen to. Love this narrator as well. They make a perfect pairing. 😊

The narration for this book is wonderful and the story is great. My only complaint is that it isn't divided into chapters correctly for referencing multiple times.
