Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

I wish I'd written down my thoughts
Revisado: 01-22-23
This is a book that needed to be written. The fact that the prince narrated his own words is fantastic. We get from the telling everything he hoped to convey.
Many times while listening, I thought to myself that I should write this down because I want to do a review, and I want to make a point of this. I didn't because that seemed extreme. I do, however, have strong feelings for this story.
Harry gave me the impression of a man locked in anger and grief of the death of his mother. I don't suggest he isn't justified, I just think this is his center by which his entire life revolves. His great desire and responsibility to protect his wife and children are embedded in the tragic senseless loss and lies of/regarding his mother. He senses, and I think justifiably so, the danger his family could face, and thankfully, his wife is loved enough to do everything in his power to prevent a tragedy. If his mother had been loved as she ought, perhaps she'd still be with them now and enjoying her family.
The toxicity of "the firm" aka his family is heart-wrenching to hear. One would struggle not to ask themselves, "You can't even possibly love and value me for if you did this would not"...and you can fill in this blank with many scenarios from his story.
The now King is a petulant child and willing to throw his own children under the bus to raise his own image and that of his Queen Consort. Both of his children. I think he loves his sons and grandchildren, but he'll toss them then to the wolves if he feels a need to do so for his own benefit.
Meagan has been the blame of everything, including things that did not even happen in, to, around, that family.
The families' impossible position of needing to suck up to the fake news media so that they are always printed favorably is antiquated poison. This family knows that their monarchy is outdated. To remain, they must do many underhanded things to remain in favor, or they could be dissolved, and they know it. So they not only allow but assist in fake news, especially if it takes focus off of the important topics and places that light on insignificant nonstories and blame on truly ridiculous things. And people. Sadly, that person is Meagan. The absolute denial of racism when it smacks you in your face is either deemed ok by silence or it is rebuked. This family chose silence. They always choose silence because they fear the media, and they fear their insignificance. They are owned by news outlets.
I believe Harry's story is true. I believe they've been mistreated and abused by everyone who mattered. When they were just silent, they were abusing their son & brother and his wife. I'm impressed that Harry said no I will not sacrifice my wife and children for this monarchy. I don't believe the late Queen actively participated in the abuse. I think she was largely left in the dark about it and otherwise controlled by others with their counsel or demands.
My wish is that Harry and Meagan remain strong and hold to their convictions. I hope one day that a news outlet is willing to take the plunge and start printing the truth about their lives; telling the stories of their good and in doing so they will change the narrative and flip the tables. We can see that people are easily persuaded to believe what they hear and read over and over, so let's hope that takes a positive turn.
I hope they succeed and live a beautiful, peaceful life together safely for the remainder of their time on earth. Best wishes to them and their children.

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Excellent. Excellent story. Excellent narration. Not at all what I expected which was a pleasant surprise. I could not wait each day until I could return to the story. This is one that you wish wouldn't come to an end. Enjoy.

Story was good. Narrator needs experience
Revisado: 09-22-22
The story had a unique way about it and I enjoyed it as a casual listen while I moved about. I think the narrator will improve over time. She isn't terrible by any means just difficult to follow. The characters didn't have a lot of distinction & it was hard to follow what character was speaking. I found it also difficult to follow the changes in the story from topic to topic. It could get confusing but because it was a simple story it was ok to miss some points. I truly believe she will improve with experience, I get a sense she has the talent.

Sweet story, excellent narrator
Revisado: 09-09-22
I have become a big fan of this narrator. She does such good work of creating identifiable characters.
This book is a sweet story of two people that society saw as flawed but they accepted the flaws and fell in love.

I thoroughly enjoyed all 3 books. The author really spun a fun web with a lot of accurate history.
The narrator is fantastic. She gives each character a distinct personality.

Historia
Polly, Annie, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Mary-Jane are famous for the same thing, though they never met. What they had in common was the year of their murders: 1888. The person responsible was never identified, but the character created by the press to fill that gap has become far more famous than any of these five women. For more than a century, newspapers have been keen to tell us that "the Ripper" preyed on prostitutes. Not only is this untrue, as historian Hallie Rubenhold has discovered, but it has prevented the real stories of these fascinating women from being told.

A Must Read
Revisado: 08-07-22
Initially at the start I thought oh no this isn't going to work as an audiobook. It must be better experienced as written word instead. Not because the narrator was poor; she is not she's very good. I just thought a book of facts is not a story to be acted. I was wrong. It is excellent. I am so glad I just happened to hear of this book on facebook and was intrigued. I appreciate this author for telling the story of The Five. They're nothing of what my imagination created nor what we've traditionally been told.
Excellent story. So much research and information went into this book about the times the women lived, their lives that lead them to their ultimate end and the summary of who they were. I'll listen to this again & again.

Enjoyed every moment of this. I did not want this story to end. One of my favorite things is this narrator. She is superb and any story she tells will be done to perfection. I always listen to any book that she performs. This story had sent me down a rabbit hole now of research on these people. Anytime I read something that has me following up and researching is a very well done book in opinion.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Treat yourself!
Revisado: 06-23-22
I've read Jane Eyre several times, it is a favorite of mine. Hearing it now told by Thandiwe Newton is fantastic. I can not rave enough about how perfectly she performs. Every character is distinct. Her ability to give them all their own voice and personailty is unmatched. I've listened to hundreds - at least- books and no one has ever outperformed her in my opinion. Her voice is so clear, annunciation is perfect. She never annoys with overly done characters, or underperformed opportunity. Sometimes I could forget that this is told by one woman and not being performed by many people. Don't skip this version! I'd give her performance more stars if I had the ability. Jane Eyre is a classic that has not dulled with time but even if you have never loved this story before, you will love it after hearing Newton tell it. I will listen to this again in the future.
P.S Thandiwe please do a version of Wuthering Heights! it is my all time favorite and to hear it from Thandiwe would be the greatest treat!

This particular genre isn't my form of entertaining reading but nonetheless the story is well written and very well performed.
If a mild touch of BDSM is a like of yours then you'll enjoy the story. The narrator does very well; the story line is quite good and again there's just a few brief tame moments of bdsm.

Not pleasant
Revisado: 04-20-22
I'm a lover of books and audible. I chose this while I wait for another book to be available. I thought because it's a classic and it's narrated by an American actress it would be fantastic. It is not. I clearly remember now why I've never finished this book in the couple of attempts I've made. It drags on without telling you much. The narration has nearly zero differentiation between characters and it's simply read to you as your 4th grade english teacher would read to you. Her voice is lovely but thats about it. I have now went back to chapter 1 at least 6 times and tried over & over to get an idea of the characters and the story. I'm making genuine effort to get into this telling but I'm leaning towards the idea that a book shouldn't be this hard to try to enjoy. I've decided that being a classic doesn't necessarily mean we must love it.
I will definitely not spend money on a book that this narrator performs unless I read reviews that express her improvement on providing the listener with character's we can identify. I don't think I'll get this book finished. I may acquiesce.
