Historia
“Break Through the Language Barrier, Expand Your Understanding” The Amplified Bible is a Literal Equivalent translation that, by using synonyms and definitions, both explains and expands the meaning of words in the text. This unique system of translation allows the reader to more completely and clearly grasp the meaning as it was understood in the original Hebrew and Greek languages. For example, the Greek word pisteuo, which the vast majority of versions render as “believe.” That simple translation, however, hardly does justice to the many meanings contained in the Greek pisteuo: “to adhere to, cleave to; to trust to have faith in; to rely on, to depend on.”

I like listening to this version of the Bible. It does a great job expounding on the underlying meaning of the original language. Not a light read, but completely worth it!
Revisado: 11-14-17
This book gave significant insight into the legal reasoning of a man whom I highly respect. He held true to his responsibility to uphold the law even when he personally disagreed with the laws he upheld. We need more Justices willing to do the same!
This book offers a look at the opinions Justice Scalia penned during his career. It is a recitation of several of these opinions, with brief explanations of context related to the case. Throughout this read, listeners will get an overview of the logic and methodology Scalia used while serving as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
The legal terms and technical nature of the writing has the potential to overwhelm some listeners, but if you are serious about gaining an understanding of the Supreme Court and the differing views of its Justices, this book is for you!

All the Movies in One Book!
Revisado: 05-21-15
Any additional comments?
Scott Brick has done a great job as always with this book! I've loved the movies ever since I was a kid, but the book takes it to a whole other level. I like the greater depth to the ideas behind the story plus Crichton does a better job telling it in a way that's much more believable. I highly recommend this thriller!

I thought this was a good book, but I wish I would've known it is part of a series by Bob Mayer when I bought it as a Daily Deal. I would've started with the first book. I could have appreciated the references to previous events more.

Historia
In 1875, tuberculosis was the deadliest disease in the world, accountable for a third of all deaths. A diagnosis of TB - often called consumption - was a death sentence. Then, in a triumph of medical science, a German doctor named Robert Koch deployed an unprecedented scientific rigor to discover the bacteria that caused TB. Koch soon embarked on a remedy - a remedy that would be his undoing. When Koch announced his cure for consumption, Arthur Conan Doyle, then a small-town doctor in England and sometime writer, went to Berlin to cover the event.

Fascinating Period of History
Revisado: 05-13-15
It struck me how far we've come from the days of rampant TB and complete ignorance of germs, etc. But no doubt some years from now people will look back at today's medicine and think we were so primitive!
The material was interesting and the writer did a great job presenting the information! I appreciated the way he weaved stories together, giving a multifaceted picture of this time in history.

Any additional comments?
This book is incredibly well written! It is the deep, real, and hearfelt account of a man's journey through all of the changes, thoughts, and feelings surrounding his wife's coma. It definitely has a sad/melancholy tone, however, and you should listen to it in pieces if you are at all susceptible to depression. I listened to it for several hours straight one day and loved it, but found I was in a bit of a funk for a bit afterwards. Lol. That said, the story remains full of hope and promise for the future of the main character and his daughters as they move forward as a family.

Koontz-style writer
Revisado: 04-27-15
Any additional comments?
This book is fast-paced and keeps you listening. Dekker's stories seem similar to Koontz-type stories with a more philisophical Christian focus. The writing (at least in this particular book) didn't feel quite as mature as a Koontz book. By this, I mean the characters and dialogue weren't quite as developed and felt more simple; however, the overall idea Dekker illustrated through his story felt well thought out and was intriguing. I look forward to listening to this story again now that I see the big concept Dekker explores in it.

Once this book got my attention, it didn't let go! The very beginning wasn't particularly gripping, but it didn't take long. I liked the book and enjoyed the interview with the author at the end as well.

Long But Well Written
Revisado: 04-20-15
Any additional comments?
While I liked the story, this book primarily uses a story to make a lot of good points. The book is so long largely because of the dialogue between characters in which the writer explores/evaluates various philosophies. It is not what you'd call objective, but certainly makes a point. I recommend it for someone interested in philosophy (especially related to economics, individualism, etc.), but not for someone just looking for an entertaining story.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds.
