Historia
The term Mexican Drug War misleads. It implies that the ongoing bloodbath, which has now killed well over 100,000 people, is an internal Mexican affair. But this diverts attention from the US role in creating and sustaining the carnage. It's not just that Americans buy drugs from and sell weapons to Mexico's murderous cartels. It's that ever since the US prohibited the use and sale of drugs in the early 1900s, it has pressured Mexico into acting as its border enforcer - with increasingly deadly consequences.

Terrific background, overview, and detail in showing where Mexico and the USA have been re drugs.
Found the dry narration distracting.

Historia
Neal Carey is not your usual private eye. A graduate student at Columbia University, he grew up on the streets of New York, usually on the wrong side of the law. Then he met a P.I. who introduced him to the Bank, an exclusive institution with a sideline in keeping its wealthy clients happy and out of trouble. They pay Neal's college tuition, and Neal gets an education that can't be found in any textbook, from learning how to trail a suspect to mastering the proper way to search a room. Now it's payback time.

It’s a beautifully written story fantastically narrated. The character development, detail, and plot lines are very good.
Happy to pursue any other works by this author and narrator.

What is Reality?
Revisado: 12-24-23
Could keeps you guessing as to where it’s going. Some you can project, some ambush you, which is more fun. His writing was better in his first book. Less descriptive in this one. Still, a fun story to follow.
The narration could not have been worse. Flat…felt like he was reading instead of being in character way too often. Absolutely took away from the quality of the work.

Historia
In this frank and gritty memoir, Peter Gatien charts the seismic changes in his personal and professional life and the targeted destruction of his nightclub empire. From Peter’s childhood in a Canadian mill town to the freedom of the 1970s, through the excesses of the 1980s and the ensuing crackdown in the 1990s, The Club King chronicles the birth and death of a cultural movement--and the life of the man who was in control of every beat.

Completely Satisfied

Very nicely written and read. Really enjoyed hearing details of Gatien’s remarkable path from small Canadian town of most modest means, to glitz and uber-success in America and London, only to be struck down by fanatical moralists within city government.
