Phenomenal insight for people climbing the spiritual ladder but going nowhere. Empowering and motivational, Steven Furtick breaks down the conventional belief that ONE DAY, God will bring us to fulfill some ELUSIVE, mysterious purpose. Rather, the journey isn't about one grand finish line- it's about becoming greater right now, right here. Backed up by relevant scriptures, key Biblical figures, and relatable yet quirky testimonies, this book is now than a feel-good read; it will bring about real change in your life and open your eyes to possibilities where there were closed doors.

Don't just take my word for it. Here are some great quotes from the text for example:
"A big dream without a small start is a day dream."
"Whatever He calls you to is the GREATEST thing you can be doing in that moment."
"Stop waiting for what you want. Work with what you have."

He breaks down common misconception that leave us trapped in the person of our own negative thought patterns by using the life of Elisha to show us a better approach.

This is not just a collection cute little quotes, but rather, an engaging practical application all wrapped up in a well composed book. The pacing is well timed: witty anecdotes that present a relatable problem that keep you laughing with recognition, dotted with heavy, thought provoking truths. I often found myself having to pause the book for the night because there was so much good content in a single chapter upon which to take notes, mediate, and journal about.

If you're like me, then you will gain so many life changing lessons from this text. I'm the type who was on fire for God, but became frustrated, defeated, and even bitter when I couldn't find this "great purpose" everyone always talked about having. I prayed and fasted, but doors never opened, and paths I thought would lead me to this elusive "grand purpose" only resulted in dead ends. I had begun to grow nihilistic, cynical, concluding that if this "great purpose" was just some carrot on a stick, then there was no point to anything anymore. I went into a long depression for many years and never found that pipe dream goal. This book was the first breakthrough I've had in years! It opened my eyes to a better perspective on the calling God has for us: an obtainable, practical, REAL approach to achieving all God has in store, and something I can do right here and now. I've a long way to go, but this book had empowered me with the thing I needed most: hope.

Bless Steven Furtick and Elevation Church!

This was a great read, powerful and inspiring. If you need a good pep talk or want some positive words spoken over your life, Joel's the way to go, particularly with this book. He has a very specific way of writing, and if you've read one of his books, you'll start to see the pattern, for better or for worse. It's up to you to decide if you like that style of writing!

His language is very simple and direct, not flowery or superfluous. It's very to the point.

The pattern goes as such: he states an idea, defines the idea, then gives an anecdote to exemplify it. The anecdote is the meat of his point. Then he closes that point with reiteration of the initial idea.

It feels very textbook. It's a simple method, pretty repetitive, and yet they are -good- points he makes. It's definitely worth listening to if you've never read one of his books, and if you're someone who doesn't have a good, friendly, open and personal church, you will be surprised at how positive his messages are and how he delivers them.

He's like a motivational speaker. He knows how to rile up the spirit in you and make you feel that "hey, maybe I CAN do this."

However, this book isn't really one that opens up revelations about verses or blows your mind with some new perspective. It's not a book that'll make you really sit down and think, or the kind that you'll want to take notes on. Might not be a good longterm aid for breaking through barriers, however, it's his simplicity that is his strength. He'll motivate you to get on your feet and inspire you to do more than you could before listening to it. Plus his inflections and manner of speech keep you interested.

Not a bad start, but not life changing

If you've never done hypnosis therapy or meditation, then this will be relatively impactful, but not life changing. It basically walks you through your feelings like any therapist or meditation process would. Has you relax, has you think back to a time you felt this feeling, has you relive and feel that feeling again, then has you release it. Basically about 40 mins of that. For folks who struggle to focus during meditation, this might be a helpful approach to it. But this is not a book that will enlighten or educate you in any way. What you're paying for is essentially a little meditation routine. There's no advice on confronting jealousy in the future, or how to really look at it a better way. It's more of a way to release your jealous feelings, and get a little different perspective on the feeling. It's a good ice breaker for confronting jealousy issues for sure. But for anyone who's been through the wringer of therapy, this might feel way too basic.
