Historia
Arden was left in the village by a dying mage, who never returned. With no way out of the village on his own, he had always held onto the hope that one day his magic would awaken and give him access to his spheres. But he’s about to turn eighteen and it’s never come. Instead, he’s settled into his lot as a sarcastic and quick-witted innkeeper. That all changes one night when his old flame, who escaped the village to become a mage’s anchor, returns. Ard’s life is about to go through some dramatic changes, and he’s not ready for them.

Historia
By age seven, Rebecca Quin, now known in the ring as Becky Lynch, was already defying what the world expected of her. Raised in Dublin, Ireland in a devoutly Catholic family, Rebecca constantly invented new ways to make her mother worry - roughhousing with the neighbourhood kids, getting older and hosting secret parties while her parents were away, enrolling in a warehouse wrestling school, nearly breaking her neck and almost kneecapping a WWE star before her own wrestling career even began - and she was always in search of a thrilling escape from the ordinary.

yeah it's good

she has an interesting story to to tell and tells it well. Thoughtful and self aware and performs it well.
Even if the way she hits her T's in an exaggerated hard way for the benefit of the yanks is a bit jarring for an Irish listener.

Historia
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Just fun. Right level of fantasy.
Revisado: 06-16-23
only gripes. its in the present tense and as the voice actor's regular voice and Vis voice are the same it can be hard to tell what is thoughts and which is speech.
aside from that flawless!
OK maybe one other thing maybe too flawless. Vis could do with messing up/ F'ing up more. Lest he become Mary sue ish...he's not...but he's not a million miles away. Alot of things come too easy. But the fact that there are consequences to his semi successes makes up for it.

Yeah...its very good.
Revisado: 07-13-22
Short answer it's good get it.
As good as the Powder mage world with a slightly less gripping opening. The rest meets the author excellent standards
longer ramble
So there are things that Mclellan always nails, atmosphere how geography, magic and culture interact with the real world.
Action always has a great rhythm. Bit too full on in this. It's an awful lot to happen in one week. If I had a start of the week like the characters I'd take a month off. they keep going.
The only criticism I would actually have is the self talk. while Brian does a great job on making the dialogue unique and full of character. the characters self talk is difficult to distinguish from his own narrative voice. it was the only thing that took me out of the book.
loved it looking forward to the next

V.Good!removing 3 sentences would improve it alot.

Decent story. ramps up tension well. promises more in future entries.
very enjoyable
I think the foreshadowing lines take away from the gut punches at the end.
hinting at the out rather than signposting it would tickle my fancy more.
