I’m on chapter 50 something. Honestly, nothing happens. It’s chapter after chapter of next to nothing happening ever. The world and characters are great. I like that it’s multiple years. However, clearly nothing interesting is going to occur until the end. I’m impressed that I’ve held on this long. But it’s just a lot of the same things happen over and over. The MC gets super sick every year. She reads a book. Lol learns a new skill that she sucks at but her sister doesn’t. And then they play in the woods. She usually gets hurt once a year. I mean it’s just a lot of filler chapters to make the book longer feels like. It’s boring.

I listened to this one ahead of season three. I guess I just feel like these are incredibly boring without the visuals. Part of what makes the tv show great is the costumes and the music and all of those details. The book feels empty in comparison which usually it is the opposite. It’s fine. It’s just not something I was overly impressed by.

Obviously we know she is a good writer. However, I have had a hard time making it through this book. Sometimes there’s just so much boring filler that it’s hard to keep going. I also find the main character to be insufferable and the inability to go a single scene without them talking about how much they want to bang each other is annoying. Like.. we get it. I am 3/4s done and while im interested in the universe… the book is so boring. Most of the dialect is boring. The scenes are boring. I don’t think I’m going to make it to the end.

I was enthusiastic to have a character change, but this story just wasn’t interesting. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to finish it. It’s too much just a love story and not enough fantasy world happening. I’m half way through and it’s basically just them wanting to bang but choosing not to and Nesta feeling sorry for herself. Even if the second half of the book picks up something that’s actually interesting, I still had to suffer through this boredom.

I love Greek mythology based books, but the lack of a slow burn for this one makes it unenjoyable and I don’t think I’ll get through it. The ‘I hate this person but also can’t control myself the first time I look at them’ is bad story telling, in my opinion. The main character should genuinely hate the guy for his trick but the moment he makes eye contact with her she can’t control her limbs. Lol. It’s just not realistic and forcing the characters together before any chemistry has been built makes it hard to listen to. And then the entire story will be her monologue about how she’s not going to do that again or like this guy but then do it every single time with zero will power and have zero romantic interest in any one else because she’s super busy trying to convince herself she’s not obsessed with the person she’s already chosen.

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Revisado: 12-26-23
The first book in the series was okay. Very predictable and lacking any real surprises, but it was still enjoyable. This one was incredibly boring. I had a hard time getting through it. Nothing happens. The love story is as boring as I thought it was would be when we were instantly left with no mystery on who her love interest would be in book one. That made this book insufferable with their forced conflicts and zero growth. There was no real character growth with friendships throughout the book. The main character’s personality became very insufferable and the ‘I don’t want to say I love you’re trope is just a lazy conflict choice. She even brought back a guy she killed from the first book to only play the exact same villain role. The MC’s dramatics about everything feels forced and immature. I’m not really sure what the author is even going to write about in the rest of the series that would make it worth reading. If we stopped treating books like fast fashion on tiktok … books that are actually really good might get more recommendation. Marketing for this series … brilliant. The writing and story…. Mediocre.

There are so many things I loved about the story. The writing is top notch, the fantasy world is interesting, and the narrator was a great choice. That being said, I did find myself getting bored. It isn’t very long as it is, but really little is happening throughout the story…. I also found the love story aspects predictable. There wasn’t any mystery with that. It was cute and a light hearted read. I will probably try the next one and see if that’s where it picks up more in the fantasy world. Highly recommend.

Poppy never dreamed she would find the love she’s found with Prince Casteel. She wants to revel in her happiness but first they must free his brother and find hers. It’s a dangerous mission and one with far-reaching consequences neither dreamed of. Because Poppy is the Chosen, the Blessed. The true ruler of Atlantia. She carries the blood of the King of Gods within her. By right the crown and the kingdom are hers.

Revisado: 08-12-23
The main plot really saves this book. The MC has so many repetitive thoughts and inner monologues that I end up skipping huge chunks because she’s said the same things so many times. If I didn’t like the actual universe I wouldn’t have made it this far. I’m not sure if I’ll go to the next one. All of the subplots have been boring since the first half of book two. The several pages of detailed dirty scenes are something I skip but I guess some people like that ? Idk. I think it it’s over kill when it’s the same guy and I personally don’t enjoy books with love stories that are predictable from the first book and never change. If it’s the same guy it shouldn’t be such a huge focus of the book, in my opinion. However, I do like the world and were this a tv series I think it would be really visually interesting and each book would be capable of being a full season. I will say the fight scenes get uninteresting as the MC is obviously going to survive along with her main supporting characters. She becomes so powerful that you wonder why she doesn’t just mow all the bad guys over and be done with it.

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

The inner monologue is torture
Revisado: 08-07-23
I might not finish this one. Like 70 percent of the book is her repetitive inner monologue about her love interest and too much. I really like the universe and the actual story so I’ve pushed forward but I end up skipping huge chunks. Continuing to pretend like she doesn’t know they love each other is absurd and her ‘I’m not going to bang him but act like a every breath he takes gives me a female boner’ every chapter is just stupid. The love interest is definitely giving Klaus Mikealson vibes and that’s a positive but I can’t imagine listening to her obsession with this guy for several more books when it’s such a big focus.
