Such a great series so reminiscent of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. Granted there are no magical wardrobes but, definite portals, time differentials, coming of age, etc. I do hope there's another in the works.

if I had one negative it would be the doubled narration. Travis Baldree is absolutely amazing. Elizabeth not so much. I can appreciate the point of view changes but, be more consistent on voices and accents. If the main narrator does a character with a neutral accent, adding a heavy British one to the same character ruins the consistency. It also is very difficult to listen to as she can come off a bit deadpan and her characters just seem one dimensional.

Regardless, great book!

Hey Fellow Audibytes!

Ok so I got this book to not only have another Audible flex books (for length) but, also to pass some time during a long drive from Vegas to Belfast, Maine! I didn't think this series would hook me. Why would it; so few reviews in comparison to others in the genre. I can definitely say I crushed this series!!

I'm so hooked. This is such an engaging story with great plot twists (some obvious most not). The author did such a great job bringing stories and characters we already know into this story in such a new and refreshing way.

As for cons, the first book can be a little bit simplistic in vocabulary but, it's easily tolerated. The second and onward, the linguistics pick up and the story gets so much better.

This series is totally a suggested listen and you'll see how hooked you are and how much you pull for the characters by the end of book 1!! Get it you won't regret it!!

Ok, yes, the title is a HUGE spoiler. It doesn't change the fact that the series is over. This is where I would insert a gif from the movie "Snatch" where Bullet-Tooth Tony looks at Avi in the backroom of the pawn shop saying, "what do you mean open him up?! ...well that's a bit harsh innit?!" The face he made is perfect for the ending of this book.

This one book had more dramatic emotional ups and downs than any of the others combined. Craig, I'm thoroughly impressed except it seems like you ran out of time for the ending. Regardless, this book is seriously good. So, trust in the awesomeness, embrace the suck, and listen to this book. You won't be upset you did.

Good Luck fellow dumb dumbs and hope to see you in another book series review!!

Audible, you have got to stop changing narrators mid-way through a book series! It ruins the dynamic of the characters. The characters feel lost to me now as all people emphasize parts and accents differently. It's like I have to relearn all the characters again. Not that Marc Vietor was bad. Had Marc been reading this from the beginning, I'd have been perfectly fine. He just isn't Luke Daniels. I was so invested in this series but, this will be the last one I get.

Thanks to Luke Daniels for making this book so much better! Not that the book wasn't exciting on its own, Luke was the key to making it better!

Hey fellow Audibites!

Let me preface this review with, I listened to the whole book and was able to somewhat deal with most of the issues.

This is definitely a book written at a 4th grade level with a target audience of teen to early 20's. It's not an adult story from any view.

Dynamic language and vocabulary are very important aspects to writing. It accentuates character's emotions and helps the character build up. Without it, it becomes very bland. My expectations were so much higher for a book with so many great reviews but, this book's mundane language and sentence structure is barely a step ahead of "see spot run." A good example would be, "he said" versus "he screamed". The later conveys emotions while the other is bland. The characters' voices are only described as "he/she said". The writer's editor needs another job.

Anyone like me is going to be annoyed by the constant reading of his skill attributes. It would have been much more effective to read them at the end of every chapter; not after every action the protagonist makes. Reading the stats so much makes a reader not care and it becomes annoying like filler.

The narration also left a LOT to be desired. Why is audible entranced with the EXTREME over accentuation of the letter "t"? So many narrators do this now. Besides that fault, the narration comes off as flat in the beginning and betters mid way through the book. His narration is the only reason I could tolerate this book. I would have burned the book if I had bought the printed version.

Overall, the storyline was decent but, the new magic system the writer created is a bit much at times and comes off clunky. I wouldn't suggest this to anyone wanting to listen to a large series of books. You'll feel dumber afterwards.
