The writing is good, but the story line was confusing. I also read the second and third book because the story needed a conclusion. There are so many characters, and switch-ups of locations from chapter to chapter that I got befuddled.

The selection of narrator for this series that has so many different characters was not a good one. R.C. Bray had trouble creating the female voices. The female voices all sounded piercing, and every older woman had a distinct cackling sound.

I continued reading books 2 and 3 because I wanted to see how things ended. But I kind of wish I hadn't started this series because the books got successively more confusing.

This was an engaging storyline that kept developing through the various books. A natural disaster results in the usual sets of villians and heros. Dialog is a bit trite. Narration was good generally, but the women's voices were not at all believable and really detracted from the narration.

I liked that this wasn't the normal "the world is ending and suddenly people are realizing the danger." Instead our perspective is from someone who is a super planner for all sorts of disaster, and is paid to prepare plans for the rich and famous. Of course, every battle plan falls apart the moment you meet the enemy, and there are many twists and turns. Narration was good.

This is one of the most entertaining books I've listened to in years! The story line is a combination of science fiction and apocalyptic fiction woven together to describe a devastated U.S. population operating in a caste system of existence. The three main characters are very well developed, and the narrative flows quickly and is so well crafted that this alien civilization comes to life in vivid detail. The main characters each have hilarious inner monologues, and the dialog between them is very well written. Not at all phony like a lot of fiction. I have yet to read the 2nd and 3rd books in the Wasteland series, but I'm very much looking forward to it.

Now for the best part...R.C. Bray's narration is nothing short of amazing! He creates each character with exceptional skill, giving each of their "voices" different pitches, inflections, accents and volume. Bray's interpretation of the character, Quinn, is particularly entertaining. I laugh out loud at some of Quinn's speech and thought, and Bray gives so much life to the words that I am enthralled by how easy it is to see each of these characters come to life.

I'm just starting to read Book 2, "Traitor," and am heartily looking forward to it.

I suspect this was written foe a younger audience give the lack of strong language. It was refreshing. even if not realism.
I began to think the McDonald family had to be the luckiest stupid people on the earth. They generally made horrible decisions but mostly survived. And there were way too many natural disasters, one on top of another. But the characters mostly were well developed. and the writing was entertaining. Narration was very good all throughout.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but was incredibly impressed all through the book. The main character, Frankie, is roughly 10 years older than me, and so much of the experiences she described were very familiar to me. Numerous times it brought me to tears and I felt like calling out to Frankie with care and concern. The author, Kristin Hannah, did an incredible job of bringing this time and these people to life. I will read this book again and again. And the narration by Julia Whalen was spectacular! I strongly recommend this to anyone who lived through the era of the Vietnam War, or who wants an appreciation of how the world was during that turbulent era.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. The dissimilarity of Chinese culture to my own experience makes it fascinating, and was curious about the concept of supernatural foxes in Chinese culture, represented in "The Fox Wife." Without previous exposure to the mythology of foxes, it took a little time to ease into this foreign concept. But Yangsze Choo did a wonderful job of narrating her novel and bringing each character to life. I hung on every word as the story unfolded. Characters were well developed, despite being complex and quite alien to me. I enjoyed the way the characters were intertwined in fascinating ways. An excellent 'read.'

Refreshing apocalyptic fiction

I've been enjoying apocalyptic fiction for the past year, but was getting overwhelmed by the amount of EMP-based story lines. Weather the Storm is a survivalist tale but is based on aberrant weather behavior as opposed to the after effects of an electromagnetic pulse attack. Characters are realistic and well developed. The story lines that follow multiple characters come together in surprising ways. The narration is excellent. With so many different characters it was challenging to switch from one distinct "voice" to the next, but Andrew Tell did an exceptional job. I enjoyed this series, and will look for more books by Kenny Soward and Mike Kraus.

The characters i The Summer House are refreshingly real and optimistic. The tales of people in their senior years, their adulthood and even childhood all form eclectic friendships while growing through the changes and challenges of their lives. I thoroughly enjoyed this

Requires a Stretch of Imagination

As EMP fiction, this series fits in the norm. The characters are well formed although they aren't particularly intelligent or interesting (except for the character Rita.) They make some of the most ridiculous strategic decisions I can imagine, and they fail to make any long-term plans, and yet by a total quirk of luck they survive the apocalypse against human enemies far more dangerous and better prepared than this little group of survivors. Ms Hamilton's writing is good, although rather hokie at times. With a more realistic plot, this could be a better series.
The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, does a good job keeping the action going. The only problem I have is that practically every single character is portrayed with a very nasally, whiny voice. Either that, or they sound like they're 'not-too-bright' I feel like reaching into the book and slapping the backs of their heads and say, "Quit whining you sniveling idiots!"
The series is "okay." Something to pass the time with.
