Was there a point?
Revisado: 07-16-21
The writing was so engaging that I got half way through the series before I realized it didn't pass the Bechtel test. The themes seem to include:
Your problems are someone else's fault
Nobody is free
If you hurt a man enough, he'll try to kill you. If you hurt a woman enough, she'll become submissive.
I enjoyed the writing and the world building enough that I was hoping he'd develop something more interesting to say. It was almost absurdism, pointing to the emptiness of war and ambition but it also constantly glorified the violence and trappings of power. I'm left feeling empty and not a bit confused for having read it.

Historia
Considered the definitive history of the American healthcare system, The Social Transformation of American Medicine examines how the roles of doctors, hospitals, health plans, and government programs have evolved over the last two and a half centuries. Updated with a new preface and an epilogue analyzing developments since the early 1980s, this new edition is a must-listen for anyone concerned about the future of our fraught healthcare system.

This book was dense! By that, I mean it was chalk full of important and interesting information but a little challenging to get through at times.
I recommend powering through some of the slower points because they payoff is a wealth of information about one of the most important and confusing aspects of American Life.

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

This is my favorite Cosmere book and a great intro to Sanderson's flagship series. I couldn't stop listening!

great collection for cosmere lovers
Revisado: 08-06-18
Several cosmere stories ranging from quirky and fun to deep and thought provoking. I would have bought an anthology for several of these individually so it's nice to get many in one tome!

Historia
Until about 1800, the West and the Islamic realm were like two adjacent, parallel universes, each assuming itself to be the center of the world while ignoring the other. As Europeans colonized the globe, the two world histories intersected and the Western narrative drove the other one under. The West hardly noticed, but the Islamic world found the encounter profoundly disrupting.

Fills an overlooked perspective: Non-Eurocentric!
Revisado: 08-06-18
I love world history and really enjoy reading about everything from ancient Rome to the World Wars. However, I find nearly all histories written in English take a firmly Eurocentric perspective. This book doesn't start with the Greeks or Romans. It doesn't paint the colonizing monarchies of Western Europe as the "good guys" (it also doesn't specifically paint them as the bad guys either).
This book touches on all of the history that you learned in school but tells the story from the perspective of the Muslim world. I'd recommend it to any Westerner who is interested in learning something new about World History and wants to find a good place to start.
