Historia
400 Things Cops Know shows police work on the inside, from the viewpoint of the regular cop on the beat - a profession that can range from rewarding to bizarre to terrifying, all within the course of an eight-hour shift. Written by veteran police sergeant Adam Plantinga, 400 Things Cops Know brings the listener into life the way cops experience it - a life of danger, frustration, occasional triumph, and plenty of grindingly hard routine work.

Loved it! Who knew all of these neat secrets!
Revisado: 07-13-16
Super interesting listen! Went back on a few chapters and really listened again and realized this guys got it, he made me better understand the cops mind set. They are forced to be tough and learn as they go. It's like this book finally made them "human" I love learning their reasoning behind why they do what they do. In these crazy times I now feel comforted by our local officers rather than fear them. Five stars all the way

Historia
Delores Phillips' heart-rending debut novel is set in 1950s Georgia where most of Rozelle Quinn's 10 children can pass as white. Her brightest child, Tangy Mae, however, has the darkest skin of them all, and she longs to continue her education. But Rozelle thinks it's time for 13-year-old Tangy Mae to follow in her own footsteps and earn money "cleaning for whites" and bedding men at the "Farmhouse."

Overwhelmed
Revisado: 06-02-16
I feel it will take at least two books to get over the devastating emotions this book brought out in me. I can say that I have never craved revenge as I've done as I listened in the hopes she would do her momma in. This is to skin deep to not have happened. My pain for those children was wrenching and it hurt to listen to what they went through but the author made me stay.almost as if I were tied to my chair. I ate lunch in solace as I thought how to help, reminding myself that it's a damn book and these people are not real.

Mercedes Hildebrand Ware is a member beyond reproach...until her life begins to unravel. When her husband betrays her, steals her money, and runs off to places unknown, it's something Frede would prefer to keep under wraps. The last thing she needs is to become fodder for the JLWC gossip mill. And to make matters worse, there's only one person in town who stands a chance at helping her get revenge - Howard Grout, a tasteless, gold-chain-wearing lawyer who has bought his way into Frede's tony neighborhood.

What made the experience of listening to The Devil in the Junior League the most enjoyable?
Ya gotta love the underdog getting in with the mean girls, I feel this often at work, and I can't help but smile when I finished the book. I learned a few lessons in southern etiquette as well, "No diamonds before dinner" loved it..

Great read
Revisado: 03-15-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book not only offers a look inside the lives of slaves, it allows us to see how self taught slaves became valued on the plantation. I caught myself going back to certain things Polly said and feeling that she was in charge at times. To me, this was something spectacular in such a dismal time in America.

Historia
A debut of extraordinary distinction: through the trials of one unforgettable family, Ayana Mathis tells the story of the children of the Great Migration, a story of love and bitterness and the promise of a new America. In 1923, 15-year-old Hattie Shepherd flees Georgia and settles in Philadelphia, hoping for a chance at a better life. Instead, she marries a man who will bring her nothing but disappointment and watches helplessly as her firstborn twins succumb to an illness a few pennies could have prevented.

Where does The Twelve Tribes of Hattie (Oprah's Book Club 2.0) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Each of the 12 children had a "everyday issues" just as our families do today, to include drug addiction, mental issues, sexuality that others do not either accept or acknowledge, fear of being left behind or guilt. Interesting to later write all of these issues or traits down next to the children's names and see that these make us every average American, both black & white.

What did you like best about Trouble in Mudbug? What did you like least?
Wished for a different narrator, but the story line was cute. The characters are believable and easy to imagine. I thought it to be cute that she is haunted by her mother-in-law. Even after death they find ways to critique us!

Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.
