This was a great disappointment especially after having loved Book 1.

Great Story Horrible Narrator
Revisado: 03-13-25
Liked the story but the narrator was terrible. Her pauses were off her tone was off. Had the story not been engaging I would have given up on this book.

......and isn't that what a good story-teller does? The storyline is a little light but the narrator's tonal inflections more than makes up for it. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are funny and human!

Historia
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. And she can use this invisibility to her advantage.

Captivated me from the beginning!
Revisado: 08-18-20
The story was believable, it never got boring. Very few stories leave me surprised or wanting to write a review as I have read sooo much in my 60 years, I can almost figure out the story line before the halfway point. I liked everything about this story.

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-31-20
I typically like Lynette Eason books but the performance made this one unbearable. I stopped listening less than halfway through.

Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

Intriguing Must Read
Revisado: 08-28-19
I was captured by this story the moment it started. Although it is a work of non-fiction, I loved the way the author wove the audio clips into the story that read like a great mystery!
