Historia
There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, his and hers. Which means someone is always lying. When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation. Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.

Over the top unbelievable
Revisado: 09-13-23
I wanted to like this more than I did. It was a good story if you go into it thinking that you’re basically watching a movie because there’s nothing else to do. It’s wildly unbelievable but when it’s over you’re like “Meh, I’ve seen worse. “ three stars.

Revisado: 12-18-20
I listen almost exclusively to thrillers on audible. Many times I like books but can guess the endings fairly early on.
Not this book. The ending was sooooo good and so satisfying.

I really didn’t like it
Revisado: 08-11-20
The narrator was incredibly hard to listen to. His accent was awful and he stumbled over words often. The story was also not good. There was no way for the listener to participate too and I couldn’t care less about the characters. This one is getting returned.

Omg! So good!
Revisado: 07-23-20
I am a huge fan of thrillers and have listened my way through close to 100 at this point. This book ranks among the top. The storyline is great and the characters were all really great to get to know.
I’m one of those people that listens closely to determine who the killer could be and am right. This book had many potential bad guys and while I was right, the suspense of who it ended up being was enough to keep me very engaged.
I really liked this book - how it started, how the story unfolded, and how it ended. I highly recommend it.

Unbelievable but still really good
Revisado: 07-20-20
I really like this author’s works and this was no exception. The story is implausible as it nears the end but it was still really good and it made me feel good listening to it. The narrator was great and the story was told with plenty of detail without being boring.

Eh it could have been worse but definitely could have been better
Revisado: 07-02-20
I listened to this book on 1.3 speed just to try to get away from the robotic narrator. It ultimately ended up being ok but I will avoid this narrator in the future.
As for the story, I figured out the big twist about 45 minutes into it when they introduced more characters but there still was a nice little twist at the end that made me sort of glad I hung in there. I didn’t love it but it wasn’t awful either.

Historia
Thirty years ago, Wilde was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. Now an adult, he still doesn't know where he comes from, and another child has gone missing. No one seems to take Naomi Pine's disappearance seriously, not even her father - with one exception. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, knows through her grandson that Naomi was relentlessly bullied at school. Hester asks Wilde - with whom she shares a tragic connection - to use his unique skills to help find Naomi.

This gets worse
Revisado: 05-22-20
I really enjoyed this book a ton when I was first listening to it and the reader did such a great job with the accents (though he called Hester Heather several times). But then it just devolved into a story that didn’t feel right at the end and weirdly untied story lines and others that were tied up too neatly.
It was a disappointment.
