Historia
From June of 2019 until his firing by President Trump after the November 2020 election, Secretary Mark T. Esper led the Department of Defense through an unprecedented time in history—a period marked by growing threats and conflict abroad, a global pandemic unseen in a century, the greatest domestic unrest in two generations, and a White House seemingly bent on breaking accepted norms and conventions for political advantage. A Sacred Oath is Secretary Esper’s unvarnished and candid memoir of those extraordinary and dangerous times, and includes events and moments never before told.

Inspiring and insightful for all audiences
Revisado: 05-27-22
I went into this book without much background knowledge of Mark Esper or how he ran the Dept of Defense. As an officer in the military who was deployed for a good portion of Secretary Esper's administration, I was extremely interested in the inner workings of his office and his "inside offence" strategy. I simply couldn't wait to continue this book each day. I even supplanted my typical exercise playlist each day with the oratory magic of Joe Knezevich reading "A Sacred Oath." As a military officer who worked some strategic programs in the Middle East, this really opened my eyes to what was happening at the highest levels of our government that resulted in major efforts to move money, personnel and equipment in theater.
History books are not filled with stories of the efforts and sacrafice made by those attempting to avoid disaster. We don't know what would have happened if Secretary Esper and his team didn't make the bold decisions and conduct his "inside offense/outside defense" strategy the way they did, but I truly believe it would have been a terrible result for our country. We all owe a huge debt to men and women like Mark Esper who stood strong for our nation's values and the Constitution of the United States of America. I hope he can serve our nation again in the future because he is a true leader and visionary with the moral courage and integrity our nation needs.

Wonderfully read classic
Revisado: 08-18-21
The narration of this classic historical fiction makes it such a pleasure to listen to. Experiencing the racial and socioeconomic inequality of a small town in the early 20th century South through the eyes of a young girl is what really makes this story unique. The courtroom drama makes for some great excitement and emphasizes the lessons of empathy, compassion and the noble of doing the right thing, no matter the consequences.

The way Bill Gates explains his unique perspective on the climate crisis is thoroughly insightful and motivating. Will Wheaton does a fantastic job with the narration and add some feeling to the work that Bill Gates doesn't easily convey, so that is helpful 😊

Obviously the first book was novel and very well done. This follows up on the first books footsteps although it's steps in all new areas. Still entertaining, still enlightening and a great look into how alike all of us are on this planet no matter what upbringing or opportunities we may have stumbled into.

Historia
We humans like to think of ourselves as highly evolved creatures. But if we are supposedly evolution's greatest creation, why do we have such bad knees? Why do we catch head colds so often - 200 times more often than a dog does? How come our wrists have so many useless bones? And are we really supposed to swallow and breathe through the same narrow tube? Surely there's been some kind of mistake. As professor of biology Nathan H. Lents explains in Human Errors, our evolutionary history is nothing if not a litany of mistakes, each more entertaining and enlightening than the last.

Historia
From the time of Ancient Sumeria, the heavy infantry phalanx dominated the battlefield. Armed with spears or pikes, standing shoulder to shoulder with shields interlocking, the men of the phalanx presented an impenetrable wall of wood and metal to the enemy. Until, that is, the Roman legion emerged to challenge them as masters of infantry battle.

I'm in the military but not the Army. I really enjoyed the audio book, but I've studied ancient history as well as modern warfare and still had to re-listen to some parts to keep track of what was going on.
The author and narration do a great job making all of this history spanning over centuries, understandable. He brings up great opinions and I feel I understand exactly what he is trying to convey. No real surprises, but good historical knowledge and context here.
