Historia
Stefan Zweig's memoir, The World of Yesterday, recalls the golden age of prewar Europe - its seeming permanence, its promise and its devastating fall with the onset of two world wars. Zweig's passionate, evocative prose paints a stunning portrait of an era that danced brilliantly on the brink of extinction. It is an unusually humane account of Europe from the closing years of the 19th century through to World War II, seen through the eyes of one of the most famous writers of his era.

Unluminary

Too convoluted. The only thing that saved it and helped me manage to complete was the narrator's performance.

If only I could give less than 1 star!

The narrator is a disaster!
The book was highly recommended to me but the struggle to continue listening to the totally robotic narration was infuriating.
I managed to complete it - but... I would have enjoyed it much more if the narration was human!

Historia
For those who could read between the lines, the censored news out of China was terrifying. But the president insisted there was nothing to worry about. Fortunately, we are still a nation of skeptics. Fortunately, there are those among us who study pandemics and are willing to look unflinchingly at worst-case scenarios. Michael Lewis’ taut and brilliant nonfiction thriller pits a band of medical visionaries against the wall of ignorance that was the official response of the Trump administration to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Worst choice of narrator!
The only reason I didn't stop reading and return the book was that I really wanted to read it, and not wait for a replacement.

The dramatized performance is a complete travesty it harms this charming tale. Just let us listen to the text add use our imagination….isn’t that what reading (audio-reading) is about?

The performance was so bad that it disrupted the enjoyment one could gain from this insightful 'dissection' of human nature.
Too bad.
Furthermore, in no place does it give the name of the translator. Is it a secret?
