Wallis was so shallow and greedy and nasty, but I get how she got that way. She did not mean for her life to end up like this. Very much reminded me of F Scott Fitzgerald's Great Gatsby. I so didn't like her, but found the whole story very intriguing. I think her husband got off on being emotionally abused. He sounded insufferable and vapid. What world, what a life.

Nice little horror story, like junk food. Creepy, I love haunted house stories. Spooky and cheesy.

This book reviews so many famous psychology studies and compares animal behavior to human behavior. A really great overview of social psychology. Easy to follow even for a layperson. Amusing at times. Highly recommend if you're curious about what make people tick, why some people commit atrocities, how altruism works. Plus Robert Sapolsky is one of my fav scientists. Great respect for his life's work.

I tried and tried getting hooked on the story, but couldn't focus. Kept forgetting who was who, where the timeline was, where the location was, etc. So many people raved about this, not sure why I didn't get into it. The voice actor is very good.

Heard about this in one of my recovery groups and got it right away. They said get audio abridged version, I'm glad I did. The personal accounts are incredibly touching, the people's voices and feelings are so raw and real. I feel connected to everyone and it's fascinating applying The Work to my list of grievances. I highly recommend this to someone seeking relief from pain, grudges, "life's not fair" - another great tool to add to your kit.

I've been struggling with alcohol addiction for years now. I've tried SO many things. This is my latest tool., and I'm reading it with an open mind. I listened to about 3/4 of it, but she talks so fast, I started over and am listening to it at .75x speed, which is kindof funny, cuz she sounds a little drunk, ha! The last time I went 30 days without drinking, I felt like I was punishing myself. This time I'm going for 90 days, and am taking on a different mindset I'm learning from this book. I don't feel bummed about it, but excited to prove that I can have a rich and fulfilling life without drinking. I like how she points out that I used to have so much fun as a kid before I started drinking, and that I can again - it's possible to unlearn all the stuff society pours down our throat every day. I tell people I struggle every day with drinking, and she put my frustration and torment into words - my conscious mind doesn't want to drink, but my unconscious mind wants to drink, and my brain is battling itself all day long, which is exhausting! I think she does a great job with research and explaining it in a way I can understand. I romanticize drinking, but it made me feel so tired and sick, and now that I quit, I'm having twice as much romance with my partner! I feel more alert and have more energy. I can relate to so much of what she shares. I'm being more forgiving of myself, which is a relief.

Where does Get Well Soon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book was captivating and entertaining!

What about Gabra Zackman’s performance did you like?

She has a very deadpan and droll delivery.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I'm fascinated by history and medical stuff, so I was expecting that, but wasn't expecting the brilliant wit. I took my medicine! My sugar lump of polio vaccine, to be more exact.

Any additional comments?

I learned WAY more than I expected. The lobotomy chapter felt out of place, but I was engrossed. Dancing plague, bubonic plague, zombie plague, polio - oh my! Highly recommend!

Where does Healing Sex: A Mind-Body Approach to Healing Sexual Trauma rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's unfortunate this book needs to be written - it's too bad 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will be sexually abused. But since we haven't figured out a way to break the cycle of abuse and stop the abusers from violating those younger and more vulnerable, we can all read books like this and heal from the abuse that is passed down with each generation.

This book offers critical information on healing and sex ed, but I found the way it was recorded to be very confusing. The book is edited so that the narrator reads in a rapid, seamless fashion; she shares info from the author, and then without pause launches into a personal account from someone interviewed. This breathless approach left me constantly confused, recalibrating and shaking my head. I kept getting wrong ideas and messed up context. Maybe this is an example of a book that doesn't translate well to audio, or perhaps they could have set it up differently.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

As a sex educator, I encounter many couples with mismatched libido and women who feel like they are "broken." This book taught me SOOO many new concepts I am eager to share! It is easy to understand, eye opening, based on science, and encouraging. ALL women should read it, and all men should, too! We need to come to a common understanding of how society skews male and female sexuality. We all have the same parts, they're just organized in different ways and women have to deal with so many challenges.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The author Emily reads the audio version and lends such a positive, upbeat attitude to the learning process. You can visualize the smile on her face as she shares insight. Very comforting and pleasant.

What does Emily Nagoski bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I ended up buying a paperback version so I could mark it up - there were so many key points I wanted to remember. I kept rewinding and listening again. Invaluable info.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

If someone listens carefully to this book, it can change their life. It can help them accept who they are, which is key to being comfortable with your sexuality.

Any additional comments?

This book can change lives for the better. So sympathetic, helpful, comprehensive, positive. I'm so impressed with the information shared.
