Historia
Americans precede anything negative with three nice comments; French, Dutch, Israelis, and Germans get straight to the point; Latin Americans and Asians are steeped in hierarchy; Scandinavians think the best boss is just one of the crowd. It's no surprise that when they try and talk to each other, chaos breaks out. In The Culture Map, INSEAD professor Erin Meyer is your guide through this subtle, sometimes treacherous terrain in which people from starkly different backgrounds are expected to work harmoniously together.

Insightful. Plenty of examples. For business.
Revisado: 01-05-25
The book is limited to managing culture differences in business.
Managers or Directors would benefit the most.
Maybe companies that got merged and now have to live and manage a new culture.
I recommend seeing some culture maps in the internet before reading the book. it makes it easier to understand the 8 dimensions.
The most valuable insight for me where the examples where the author explains cultures that are outliers when it comes to how some dimensions relate to each other.
Eg, how US is egalitarian and "top down" when it comes to taking decisions. Which makes Germans confused as they are the opposite, hierarchical and consensual.
I would have liked to get aacces to a free map export of 5 to 6 cultures as part of the book.
in summary, a book worth hearing.

Great to start meditation focused on performance
Revisado: 11-12-24
Very good lengths. Easy read.
It’s limited to how meditation impacts performance. (No spiritualism, no soul or ephemeral stuff).
I really liked that, additional to the summary of investigations, the authors 10 years experience around performance and funny stories; the book has 3 sessions that cover the basics of a sitting meditation, walking meditation and mindfulness.
The author convinced me to try at least a daily 2 min meditation session for 3 weeks to see if I do benefit in my work performance.
So, mission accomplished for this reader.

Really good book. Pragmatic and to the point
Revisado: 10-29-24
Really liked this book.
Easy to hear, with a healthy level of examples.
Full of clearly defined.... definitions. This is very valuable, soft skills normally ends in gray areas. I really appreciated the books effort to define things like: Emotional self awareness, Self-confidence, Self-control, Empathy, etc.
It covers a very good (and descriptive) categorization of leadership styles.
Finally, it does limit the scope to Emotional Intelligence in terms of performance, not spirituality or other dimensions.
Thus, most of the findings are based on experiments measured with performance.
I recommend this book to people who want to understand or become leaders in their professional work.

Almost 5 stars.
Revisado: 10-20-24
I graduated from Animation and digital arts in 2013 in Mexico.
But never came to work ok the industry.
I really enjoyed listening to this book.
it brought good memories back, from my childhood as well of the technicalities from digital animation.
what I like the best about the book is that it goes way back to this start of graphics and animation.
covers the housepectrom off the different company is that Push y industry Forward. it almost feels like any sorry about animation in the US with most of the coverage on Pixar. (which actually pushed the industry more than any other company)
I found the book is very objective and honest to many events. I was intrigued to learn not only the artistic side but also the business, financial, politics and emotional baggage of the industry and all the companies.
I had to rate it four stars because I noticed the book structure is a bit entangled in terms of chronology.
The story jumps from decade to decade constantly because the book's chapters are movie or main events driven.
Note: I was pretty amazed that so many movies overlapped making the book's chronology difficult.
Read this book if you want to go deep into the ever changing story of Pixar with it's constant clashes and challenges between the technology, leadership, the entertainment industry, investors and most importantly the artist.

Historia

Built To Last, the defining management study of the 90s, showed how great companies triumph over time and how long-term sustained performance can be engineered into the DNA of an enterprise from the very beginning. But what about companies that are not born with great DNA? How can good companies, mediocre companies, even bad companies achieve enduring greatness?

Great read. based on plenty investigation.
Revisado: 08-28-24
The book is the conclusion of vast business analysis.
I liked that they went the extra mile on choosing a high bar regarding what is considered a great company.
I also think they concluded very well what might be key factors across all great companies. The analogy at the end of the book with health leaves it clear that the analysis found what activities make great companies. similar to what principles make people healthy.
I really liked the extra chapter where the author talks about the previous book, Built to last. And how both correlate to each other.
Finally the narration was very good. Some parts of the book a bit over the top on tone and passionate voice.
Recommend this book to Managers, CEOs, leaders.
As a manager, I now know how to identity great companies and what it takes as an employee to survive and strive in one of them.

Very good history book with a European-German standpoint.
Revisado: 06-08-24
Weiten in the 1935, but with an extra chapters that covers till the atomic bomb.
I liked the simple narrative, although dedicated to children, it's nos infantile. Thus makes it easy to listen too.
My only important observation is that it's written from a European-German standpoint. thus most content ianabout Europe history. And, for example, only covers (in a limited way) the history of America from Columbus onwards. no mention of all the previous pre-Columbian history.

Demystifies the traditional Gantt. Recommended
Revisado: 06-04-24
All sections make a lot of sense.
I adopted the authors proposal of a new way to define roadmaps.
Iv'e worked for several multinational business using SCRUM and Kanban. And this book would have been very helpful to me in most cases I have seen in the past 10 years.
The chapters are short and well structured. (They exaggerated a bit on this.)
I really like that they removed my (now old) idea that a Gantt or schedule was part of the roadmap.
Highly recommend this book for Product Managers, Product Owners, Project and Tech Leadership roles.

Dave Thomas and Andy Hunt wrote the first edition of this influential book in 1999 to help their clients create better software and rediscover the joy of coding. These lessons have helped a generation of programmers examine the very essence of software development. Now, 20 years later, this new edition re-examines what it means to be a modern programmer. Topics range from personal responsibility and career development to architectural techniques for keeping your code flexible and easy to adapt and reuse.

A must for developers, testers and managers. Specially junior members.
Revisado: 05-07-24
This book feels like if a senior developer or Chief technology officer is giving you a pep talk about how to actually be a tough developer of your field.
I have been working in the software industry for the last 10 years. Medical, automotive, web, mobile, applications, embedded. From 4 person company to 5,000 employee internationals.
I can assure you the contents of this book match reality very well.
If you are just coding, this is a must, you will learn that coding is just 1 of the thausands of key activities of a developer.
I liked that this 20th year edition included topics like CI/CD, Cybersecurity, coders ethics, Testing, and more.
Fair warning, this is not a practical book, but a generalist book that tells you what topics, attitude and skills a top knoch developer needs.
As an engineering manager of several scum teams, I'll set this read as a must for their professional career.
