The science is fascinating but conjecture is not

There is a some fascinating science and interesting facts presented in the book. 4 stars just because of that. However, there is a lot of conjecture and these are presented with a thoroughly condescending western attitude. Having said that, not all the conjecture is bad, like the part about imagining the women driving the evolution of speech. There is a lot of us vs them I don't like.

"Umwelt" what a wonderful world.

Learning about the animal umwelt was exciting and filled with awe. However, all the excitement comes to a sobering conclusion that we are the destroyers yet the only ones capable of mitigating the ecological destruction.

Great juxtaposition of lifespan and healthspan

The accounts of frontline fundamental research are remarkable. The example of optic nerve repair in mice blew the doors off my skeptical mind. Much of what is presented was already in the news, but presented in a cohesive narrative put the whole field of research into context.

"Healthspan", if we could really increase that, suffering could be thing of the past.

Love there short fables for adults

These stories were brilliant. Told to adults but I believe these could told in a not so grim manner and these would be very good ones for kids too. I want to go back and listen to them again so I will remember to tell them myself.

Lots of action .. low on substance

Too much action for no real payoff. Super scientist and Super soldiers. Mowing down lemmings and other soldiers and whole lot of yeeha. It was funny at times though.

The premise wasn't what its cracked up to be. Not very provocative. It was very much run of the mill simulation theory mixed in with a weird dose of religion, specifically Christianity.

Moving story. Exceptional performance

Loss, grief and forgiveness encapsulated in a concise well told story. Not used to Irish accent but it was very enjoyable once I did.

Fully immersion was inevitable I guess, so is the AI that wants to live. Still, there is some heart in the story though the stakes never were insurmountable. Heroes being heroes I guess. The first novel was cool. This one is ok.
