Historia
Tess Delaney makes a living restoring stolen treasures to their rightful owners. People like Annelise Winther, who refuses to sell her long-gone mother’s beloved necklace - despite Tess’s advice. To Annelise, the jewel’s value is in its memories. But Tess’s own history is filled with gaps: a father she never met, a mother who spent more time traveling than with her daughter. So Tess is shocked when she discovers the grandfather she never knew is in a coma. And that she has been named in his will to inherit half of Bella Vista, a 100-acre apple orchard in the magical Sonoma town called Archangel. The rest is willed to Isabel Johansen. A half-sister she’s never heard of.

A fairytale for confused young women
Revisado: 12-20-24
Another story full of cliches: Beautiful messed up and selfish young woman meets a handsome prince. His love for her redeems her and they live happily ever after. Oh wait.. that’s my story except for the “beautiful“ part… and the handsome prince turned out to be Jesus!

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

A moronic tale
Revisado: 12-14-24
A depressing and fictional Disney story about selfish, entitled people looking for hope in parenting, sex, pride, and money. Living lonely lives without purpose, the author suddenly changes their personalities and wants us to believe that they find happiness when they find their true soulmates. “And they lived happily ever after?” Unlikely.

Historical fiction of hope and love.
Revisado: 06-26-24
This WWII fictional story is well told, though a bit too predictable for my taste—nazi soldier meets Jewish beauty. The modern retelling of the story of Esther is interesting. If you enjoy historical fiction with a happy ending and reminders about what really matters in life, you will like this book, as I did.

Historia
The French Revolution is at the height of its fury. Daily, hundreds of aristocratic heads fall from the guillotine. Emotions run high, and anyone suspected of sympathy toward the nobility is in mortal danger. Only one man is daring enough to lead a small band against popular opinion - the Scarlet Pimpernel. Using masterful disguises and clever strategies, the Scarlet Pimpernel smuggles noblemen and women from France to safety in England. His success is a thorn in the side of the Revolution. As he vanishes from each escapade, he leaves no trace behind except an image of the colorful flower that is his emblem.

A classic romantic mystery with a message for this generation about how revolutions can go wrong. A fun, fictional story, well-told.

Historia
After a decade as a political speechwriter - serving as head speechwriter for First Lady Michelle Obama, a senior speechwriter for President Barack Obama, and chief speechwriter for Hillary Clinton on her 2008 presidential campaign - Sarah Hurwitz decided to apply her skills as a communicator to writing a book...about Judaism. And no one is more surprised than she is. Sarah Hurwitz is on a mission to close this gap by sharing the profound insights she discovered on everything from Jewish holidays, ethics, and prayer to Jewish conceptions of God, death, and social justice.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

What's the point?
Revisado: 06-20-23
A skillful writer but a story that left me empty and wondering why she wrote this book. I read it for a book club but felt like it was a waste of my precious time. Why bother writing a story like this? I felt like I learned nothing and left the story poorer than when I had begun. I'm sorry the author doesn't turn her skills to writing important stories that go untold.

Wish I could find a British narrator!
Revisado: 06-20-23
Narrator Max McLean sounds like a bored actor detached from the meaning of the stories he's reading, and mispronouncing many, many words and names. I so wish I could find a good narrator with a British accent, such as Simon Vance or John Lee.

Historia
Bright, attractive, and well-connected, in any other family the Churchill girls - Diana, Sarah, Marigold, and Mary - would have shone. But they were not in another family, they were Churchills and neither they nor anyone else could ever forget it. From their father - "the greatest Englishman" - to their brother, golden boy Randolph, to their eccentric and exciting cousins, the Mitford Girls, they were surrounded by a clan of larger-than-life characters which often saw them overlooked.

Revisado: 02-09-22
We’ll researched, interesting perspective on such an important time in our history. Well told vignettes but the organization confused me a bit in the audiobook version. As a result, I very much enjoyed the book but don’t think that I will remember it as profound.
