Angel Heart meets Slow Horses
Revisado: 03-06-24
Found this audio book to be particularly engaging from the get go - so much to parse through, written with humor and finesse, excellent pacing of narrative and character development. Very stimulating, keeps you guessing, and deft at whetting the appetite for more. Almost fell in love with it - although somehow felt a little disappointed by the finale.

Historia
They meet at a local tavern in the small town of Belleville, Delaware. Polly is set on heading west. Adam says he's also passing through. Yet she stays, and he stays - drawn to this mysterious redhead whose quiet stillness both unnerves and excites him. Over the course of a punishing summer, Polly and Adam abandon themselves to a steamy, inexorable affair. Still, each holds something back from the other - dangerous, even lethal secrets. Then someone dies. Was it an accident or part of a plan? By now Adam and Polly are so ensnared in each other's lives and lies that neither one knows how to get away.

Eat, Slay, Love

Very nicely rendered murderous mystery romp with nice local beach town touches (including a PI who slings impressive bar food at a local watering hole). Cleverly designed web of intricate relationships with conflicting agendas and angles, compelling back stories, and believable intimacy.

Historia
Even through the roar and effervescence of the 1920s, everyone in New York has heard of Benjamin and Helen Rask. He is a legendary Wall Street tycoon; she is the daughter of eccentric aristocrats. Together, they have risen to the very top of a world of seemingly endless wealth—all as a decade of excess and speculation draws to an end. But at what cost have they acquired their immense fortune? This is the mystery at the center of Bonds, a successful 1937 novel that all of New York seems to have read. Yet there are other versions of this tale of privilege and deceit.

Deftly told “multiverse” of a novel
Revisado: 02-05-23
Diaz doubles back, call and response with exquisite language and care, as he tells, retells, recants, and corrects the final ledger once and for all. Compelling, intriguing, dynamic glimpses into many different worlds, all serving one “common good”.

Historia
The Latecomer follows the story of the wealthy, New York City-based Oppenheimer family, from the first meeting of parents Salo and Johanna, under tragic circumstances, to their triplets born during the early days of IVF. As children, the three siblings—Harrison, Lewyn, and Sally—feel no strong familial bond and cannot wait to go their separate ways, even as their father becomes more distanced and their mother more desperate. When the triplets leave for college, Johanna, faced with being truly alone, makes the decision to have a fourth child.

Worth reading parts 1&2, but not 3
Revisado: 12-14-22
Great language, snide, compelling take on recent social and political upheaval. Started a tad pretentious, and u fortunately Part 3 was pretty terrible in that it seemed to treat characters’ therapy insights as narrative elements and completely spoonfed the prior subtexts that had been so elegantly wrought.
Loved the actress who portrayed the many characters so winningly.
