Historia
The world will succumb to frost and be reborn in fire. That is what the witch promised... Since then, Kelera has spent her life denying the Fae blood that runs in her veins, shutting away the magic that calls to her. But when trouble strikes the heart of the kingdom, she finds she must do whatever it takes to help. For the chance to save herself, her people, and to prove her loyalty to the mortal realm, Kelera must venture into the heart of Elfhame and navigate her way through the malevolent Unseelie Court at the risk of her own life.

amazing world building.
Revisado: 07-26-24
This was an exciting trip into Elfhame, where Kelera is forced to go and try to rescue her best friend after she is kidnapped by one of the Fae princes. Of course, nothing goes according to plan and she herself becomes stuck there.
Samiel is ruthless in his fight for power, and isn't afraid to use everyone else for his gains. While Kelera is better off under another prince, Adrastus, there seems to be a fight for everything between the brothers, especially Kelera's company.
As she learns information about her own heritage and Samiel's horrible plans, Kelera finds herself allying with Adrastus despite his cold demeanor towards her. While they fight for the kingdom of Elfhame, will they also find solace in one another for more than political reasons?

the slow burn finally lights
Revisado: 07-26-24
Kelera and Adrastus are still running away from Samiel's court as they pretend to be a married couple. Of course, that comes with it's own challenges. When the lines between real and pretend blur, Kelera realizes that whatever they may have is doomed by the coming war. She must warn her father and the mortal king.
Adrastus has bound Kelera to him both to keep Samiel from getting her magic, but also to help her contain hers. She's got no training or experience with it, and it's proved to be a dangerous gift. As they grow closer, he realizes that he doesn't want her to return to the mortal lands...but she has no other choice.
Desperate to save everyone and naive to the bent truth of the Fae, Kelera finds herself back home and in a cell, ready to be executed despite the fact that she's innocent to the charges. Samiel has captured Adrastus and Kelera can feel his torment through their magical bond. How can they possibly find each other again. Is this the end?
Holy cliffhanger I need book 3!

such a great fantasy
Revisado: 06-24-24
This was action packed and full of adventures and battle. I really liked the ragtag band of travelers, the epic quest, the dragons, and the way that they each had their own purpose that lead them to the same place. The way the author interwove their paths throughout the story without giving too much away was really well done. There were some twists and betrayals that I just did not see coming! A great new book to check out!

slow start
Revisado: 02-06-23
This started really slow for me, but having read a lot of Nora Roberts books I know that there's a decent amount of background, and in this case, world-building involved. I struggled a little bit getting into it because the narrator talks so very slowly, but I sped it up and it was fine.
I really liked that Breen was able to connect with her family and learn about their world, but it was a tough situation for her to be in. And then there was Keegan, oof! What a stubborn man. I didn't like how he handled things, but I suppose that's part of the story!
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next when Breen goes back with Keegan.
