Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

Oh, the places a whore will go: Strip clubs, four-star hotels, stinking basement apartments, luxury cottages. A striking memoir by Andrea Werhun and Nicole Bazuin documents Andrea's sex work career in lush photography and powerful words—in all its slippery, sexy, silly and sometimes heartbreaking glory.

very informative, and humorous while tackling difficult topics. Some parts were sad but in a good way, and it changed my view of sex work to include exotic dancers. There's one story about a kidnapping by a Canadian Mayor i wasn't sure was true but otherwise 100%.

Historia
Rock god. Justice fighter. Rabble-rouser. Ivy Leaguer. An American renegade and fearless truth teller. Rage Against the Machine’s guitar virtuoso, Tom Morello, is many things; but perhaps, he himself, sums it up best: a one-man revolution. For the first time ever, hear Morello fuse the deeply personal with the political in a rapturous, badass, one-man show that skillfully balances soul-bearing stories with spellbinding guitar fury: Speaking Truth to Power Through Stories and Song by Tom Morello.

Significantly better than what I expected.
Revisado: 05-21-22
I'm not sure what I was expecting but this exceeded said expectations. The guitar performances were pretty cool and it was nice that they were brief. Tom Morello has excellent storytelling capabilities. Enjoyable even if you're not a raging against the machine or audioslave fan.

A fun premise and engaging story
Revisado: 01-12-22
Not a bad book, coming from someone who is into scam and chicanery literature. Everything was plausible while not being overly vague. Narration was okay in my opinion.

Historia
When we think of fungi, we likely think of mushrooms. But mushrooms are only fruiting bodies, analogous to apples on a tree. Most fungi live out of sight, yet make up a massively diverse kingdom of organisms that supports and sustains nearly all living systems. Fungi provide a key to understanding the planet on which we live, and the ways we think, feel, and behave.

Revisado: 12-19-21
The narration is excellent. The pace is good. if you are already familiar with mushroom stuff and the fungal systems, you will still learn a lot from this book. The author has simile devoted his life to this topic. covers both the psychological pharmacological and ancestral tie-ins with humanity.

Only 4 'Stories' in, already one of my favorites
Revisado: 11-16-20
YOU HAVE ARRIVED AT YOUR DESTINATION is one of my faves, and really cool take on CRISPR. Fun if you're a Psyche major or a new parent.
The 'Skin' story was excellent, unique storyline and fantastic narration.
Winter was a classic Blake Crouch style Sci Fi, with a believable premise and read with great affect. Highly recommend this book on those alone.

In Killing Commendatore, a 30-something portrait painter in Tokyo is abandoned by his wife and finds himself holed up in the mountain home of a famous artist, Tomohiko Amada. When he discovers a previously unseen painting in the attic, he unintentionally opens a circle of mysterious circumstances. To close it, he must complete a journey that involves a mysterious ringing bell, a two-foot-high physical manifestation of an Idea, a dapper businessman who lives across the valley, a precocious 13-year-old girl, a Nazi assassination attempt during World War II in Vienna.

Quintessential Haruku Murakami Great Entry Book
Revisado: 10-10-19
For those who are ne wto the works of Mr Murakami; this is a great starting point. It envelopes his surreal, multi-faceted and deeply layered writing styles. It has a fun whimsical way of bending reality but still making you feel like you're grounded in the real world, despite things like a 'two-foot-high physical manifestation of an Idea.' He keeps the reader engrossed throughout, and its one of the few books I could see myself reading again and enjoying, as there are so many metaphors and lots of overt symbolism that I might have missed the 1st time.
For those who are debating on adding this to their Haruku collection, my favorites in order were 1Q84, this book, and Wind Up Bird Chronicle, and After Dark. I wasn't fond of Hard Boiled Wonderland and didn't like the movie version of Norwegian Wood (not yet read).

Historia
In the 10 years since his classic Kitchen Confidential first alerted us to the idiosyncrasies and lurking perils of eating out, much has changed for the subculture of chefs and cooks, for the restaurant business and for Anthony Bourdain. Medium Raw explores those changes, tracking Bourdain's strange and unexpected voyage from journeyman cook to globe-traveling professional eater and drinker, and even to fatherhood. Bourdain takes no prisoners as he dissects what he's seen.

5 Stars or 4 depending on how much you love Tony
Revisado: 01-31-19
Simply put, its a great auto-biography and then some about one of the most fascinating food connoisseurs of our time. Really cool anecdotes and 1st hand accounts of the food industry, and that's from a viewpoint of someone who has read non of his other books. This was cool, but not an 'incredible' read. Anthony narrates the same way he does on the show, but with more liberal swearing and drug use which I enjoyed. It fits his personality well, so if you like Anthony already and want to support his estate, get this book.

In this “miracle of literary serendipity” (The Washington Post), after finding himself deep in the thrall of heroin addiction, the soldier arrives at what seems like the only logical solution: robbing banks. Written by a singularly talented, wildly imaginative debut novelist, Cherry is a bracingly funny and unexpectedly tender work of fiction straight from the dark heart of America.

A great listen, very well narrated by Nick Offerman of course. cool anecdotes throughout, plus some fun history. Had no idea about the native animals people ate back in the 1800s being so different from today.
