Historia
Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He still does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar routines: the pub quiz, his favorite bench, his cat waiting for him at home. His days of adventure are over. Adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s job now. Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. Working in private security, every day is dangerous. She’s currently on a remote island protecting mega-bestselling author Rosie D’Antonio, until a dead body and a bag of money mean trouble in paradise. So she sends an SOS to the only person she trusts . . .

Wonderful, fun, touching
Revisado: 09-28-24
Loved this book and the characters, who, although a little less sweet than the Thursday murder club crew, are still heartwarming and who still bring some coziness to the table.

Narration was amazing, the story was quite fun
Revisado: 08-23-24
This mystery was cozy but still had a solid amount of action in it. Unsure why the residents who comprise the Thursday murder club haven’t been kicked out of Cooper’s Chase for the sake of avoiding trouble but, they always lead to a fantastic story.

Perhaps my favorite Alex Cross book
Revisado: 02-13-23
I loved the cozy vibes, the new narrator, I loved both story lines, I love the neat little bow at the end, AND, best of all, I love how Alex didn’t endanger himself in his (usual) selfish way, completely ignoring the people in his life who depend on him.

I binge listened to this book and adored it, sent a copy to my mom. I think that her narration does so much (in a great way) for this story. In my opinion, Klein also does a great job acknowledging her privilege in a non-preachy way,
time and time again as she talks about motherhood.

Historia
Only 22, Emma learned to bake at the side of a master, Ezra Kuchen, the village baker since before she was born. Apprenticed to Ezra at 13, Emma watched with shame and anger as her kind mentor was forced to wear the six-pointed yellow star on his clothing. She was likewise powerless to help when they pulled Ezra from his shop at gunpoint, the first of many villagers stolen away and never seen again. In the years that her sleepy coastal village has suffered under the enemy, Emma has silently, stealthily fought back.

A beautifully told and narrated story of communal strength and growing into a leader
Revisado: 09-07-22
This book, which has a pacing that is neither too fast nor too slow, presented the story of a young French woman whose responsibilities and conflicts are thrust upon her as the German occupation unfolds. We live in an era which points to political leaders as the source of or solution to our problems. But in this story about fighting for survival, we can be reminded of how small acts of care for those around us, whether or not they are carried out with tenderness, resentment, or both, are what keep individuals and communities going. Narration / voice acting are absolutely perfect and the word choices and imagery really do engage all of the senses.
