Compassionate autobiography.
Revisado: 11-04-22
Well written and forthright biography. Her feelings, struggles and success lay bare as she discusses each of her marriages and childhood experiences, and how it shaped who she is today. I wholeheartedly appreciate her time in sharing her experiences with such honesty, it shows that all women regardless of our social economic situation are subject to patriarchy, trauma and insecurities. This book is a must read/listen.

History crash course.
Revisado: 06-07-22
As an immigrant I did not studied the US history growing up, when I enrolled in college in the US the history classes where choppy and sometimes packed with professors biases. This book helped me understand how the content of my classes fit in the history timeline. It has also helped me understand my school age children homework better :) I loved it! Highly recommend for immigrants, understanding the history timeline made me feel a lot more connected to my US citizenship.

Must read!

As a former evangelical and mother of a transgender girl, this book made so much sense to me. I never had a problem accepting my daughter and have been a fierce advocate for her from day one, but getting my privileged white teenager to understand how her world will suddenly change once she no longer resembles a white boy, has been the biggest challenge of my life. I hope that my child will read this book and understand how her life is about to change, for better and worst all at the same time.
Thank you Paula for sharing your experience as you help pave the way for transgenders like my daughter.

Historia
When Putsata Reang was eleven months old, her family fled war-torn Cambodia, spending twenty-three days on an overcrowded navy vessel before finding sanctuary at an American naval base in the Philippines. Holding what appeared to be a lifeless baby in her arms, Ma resisted the captain’s orders to throw her bundle overboard. Instead, on landing, Ma rushed her baby into the arms of American military nurses and doctors, who saved the child's life. “I had hope, just a little, you were still alive,” Ma would tell Put in an oft-repeated story that became family legend.

Historia
Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”
