I figured out the ending petty soon, but the plot twists had me second guessing myself. I was glad to see Shelby's character develop into a strong woman.

What can I say? This entire series by Kristen Painter has been terrific! Not anything steamy, but just enough romance.

Historia
After more than a decade, when sisters Nikki, Sami, and Tori Knotek hear the word mom, it claws like an eagle’s talons, triggering memories that have been their secret since childhood. Until now. For years, behind the closed doors of their farmhouse in Raymond, Washington, their sadistic mother, Shelly, subjected her girls to unimaginable abuse, degradation, torture, and psychic terrors. Through it all, Nikki, Sami, and Tori developed a defiant bond that made them far less vulnerable than Shelly imagined.

Eye opening
Revisado: 11-15-20
I could never really say that I understand the psychological affects of what happened here. This will definitely open you to an inside look at an abusive home. The storyline jumped around a little too much for me. Sometimes it was hard to keep up with the time period of what was happening. I am not referring to the telling of what happened and then hearing more recent thoughts of that same event. There was a point when the author talked of Tori being born and then it seemed like he reverted back to an incident before her birth. Karen did a great job with the voices of the different characters. It was a little harder to differentiate the girls during and after their teen years, but the age difference helped that. It is so sad that these kinds of things do happen and worse that they go unnoticed.
SPOILER ALERT!!
To get away with harming this many people, and independent adults at that, is mind blowing! There is no way I could sit back and let what happened to Kathy or Ron happen to myself. I can understand how the children could be influenced, as that is the only way of life that they knew. The husband and other 2 adults, I do not comprehend. I also don't understand why Shelley's stepmother didn't intervene sooner or how none of the girls' school staff noticed anything. Especially when she didn't allow them to change clothes. You never really know what goes on behind closed doors.

Good, but familiar
Revisado: 10-11-20
It was a good story, but too much of it sounded exactly like the last book. There were phrases that sounded like the only difference was the names involved. Still worth a read.

Revisado: 05-20-20
I loved the story until the end! I wanted more out of the ending. The reading was not good. I enjoyed when she was reading Iris but all of the male characters sounded the exact same. I still enjoyed the story but would warn others to be open and pay attention to which male is speaking.

After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness - if, indeed, they can be saved.

Great Job All Around
Revisado: 05-14-20
What a great ending to the trilogy! Nora Roberts tells a wonderful tale as usual. Julia Whelan did an excellent job of the many characters. 99%of the time i knew exactly who was speaking by her voice alone. She was the perfect choice for all 3 stories. You can't help but love the good guys and hate the bad guys. The characters are so relatable. I would love to see this turn into a movie trilogy. A new favorite for me.

Historia
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

Bring on #2!
Revisado: 04-24-20
I really loved this book. I am a huge Nora Roberts fan and this one didn't disappoint. The characters are relatable and the story is different. I thought it quite coincidental that I would start this book while COVID-19 has been ravaging most of the world. I enjoyed the magic involved and cried at some of the losses. I got a good laugh during some portions and straight up angry at others. There were moments of joy and of despair. Julia Whelan did a great job at differentiating so many characters. There were only a couple of times that I got confused about who was speaking, but with the multitude of characters introduced, I could understand that. I thoroughly enjoyed this listen and will be recommending to family and friends. I'll be starting book 2 soon!
