Fabulous continuation of Belladonna
Revisado: 08-26-23
There's always a little hesitation when you start the second book in a series: Will it measure up? Will it be different enough, yet carry the spirit of the first novel? Etc...
Foxglove is perfection. I don't even know where to start. Blythe's perspective was such a crisp, wonderful addition. I adored the expansion on existing characters and the introduction of new faces. It still has all the Gothic treats: nightgowns and manors and intrigue. And the narration is just so beautiful. This is a series I know I'll return to again and again.
Thank you, Ms. Grace.

Historia
Nineteen-year-old Signa Farrow, orphaned as a baby, has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her well-being—and each has met an untimely end. Her last remaining relatives are the Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at the glittering and gloomy estate of Thorn Grove. Thorn Grove’s patriarch, Elijah, mourns his late wife, Lillian, through wild parties and drink, while eldest son Percy grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation and daughter Blythe suffers from the same mysterious illness that killed her mother.

Gorgeous cover, fabulous story, epic narration.

What an unexpected treat! I'm such a sucker for anything Gothic, and death personified? Count me in! I knew I'd enjoy it, but I was not expecting such incredible narration. Can't wait for the next one.

Historia
Marlinchen and her two sisters live with their wizard father in a city shifting from magic to industry. As Oblya’s last true witches, she and her sisters are little more than a tourist trap as they treat their clients with archaic remedies and beguile them with nostalgic charm. Marlinchen spends her days divining secrets in exchange for rubles and trying to placate her tyrannical, xenophobic father, who keeps his daughters sequestered from the outside world.

A brilliant, horrifying celebration of fairy tales
Revisado: 07-12-22
I have read countless retellings in the last few years. Many have been fun. A few have been exquisite. None have captured the essence of the horror and magic of fairy tales like this one. Children aren't safe. Parents aren't good. Siblings are not to be trusted. There is a laundry list of CWs that accompany this work, as there should be. However, I found the story to be ultimately incredibly empowering and worth the hard parts, even with the shadow of my own trauma lurking in the background. Readers should approach with caution. Absolutely brilliant work.

A Fresh, Engaging Story
Revisado: 10-10-21
This book was such a great surprise. I grabbed it on a whim because of the cover and sample, and I was not disappointed.
The premise was so fun and creative. Really fresh, and yet it hit all the expectations of the genre. Clean, crisp writing. Interesting characters (loved Amber and Chill so much). All in all, a super satisfying read. On to book 2.
