I am coming into this series straight out of the John Warren novels and those were the first books from this author I have read. where those were a nice slow burn this series is pedal to the metal out the gate. Highly recommend if you are looking for a fast paced action packed read that never let's up.

better than the first. as John accepts his new responsibilities the action heats up. more action, higher stakes and a fast paced story makes this book an improvement in every way over the already great first book.

By far one of the best realistic and relevant collapse books out. You can see parts of what caused the collapse in this series playing out in real time before our very eyes. I rate this right up there with the Tomorrow War series by J L Bourne

Meet Erin Locke, snark-filled resident of Northwest England and general ignorer of social norms. All's going well enough for her on June 23, but then some people died, and then more people died, and then those people stopped being dead, and then the biting kicked in, and before you know it she's fighting zombies, leaping over walls and climbing to rooftops to stay alive.

Revisado: 07-08-24
To start with the strongest part of this audiobook we look at the narrator. I was familiar with her work from the few chapters she did in one of the later main series books and I was pleased to hear she was strong and consistent through the entire story Danielle Cohen did a fantastic job giving voice and personality to the characters especially Lockey.
As far as the actual story goes its fine I guess. It's well written the characters are good for the most part but it's just a replay of the main story if Adrian was a young British chick instead of a slightly older American dude. They both predominantly take place in schools; they both find an old cagey veteran with dark secrets to guide them; they are both crass; both find humor in bodily functions; both have to learn to rely on the people around them; both have to form their group of 3; both have escalating conflicts with more and more dangerous groups; and finally have their confrontation with one of evils chosen champions. There's just not enough thats different here for me to rate this higher.
Now the things I don't like and surprise surprise they are the sane things I dislike in the main series. The first is the endless girl power reminders. Don't get me wrong I love a lot of the female characters in both series and have zero issue with strong female characters but ffs show don't tell. We can see they are badasses by the description of their actions but the constant direct reminders are tiring. it cheapens the badass things they do and make it feel like you're trying to sell me something. Let their actions speak for themselves. second the constant pushing the male gender down. In the main series it's done with comedy which makes it less noticeable but this one just uses it as a club when it's brought up. Males are a shitty gender when it's a male antagonist but when the next big antagonist is a female doing the exact same things there's no mention of it. Both of these things infest 99% of all modern entertainment and its just tired at this point. It doesn't feel organic or serving the story in any way it just pushes an idealigical standpoint.
That being said it's still a good story if you are a fan of the AUD universe and it gives these characters appearance in the main series more weight. Just don't expect it to be anything new. As long as you take it for what it is it's definitely a worthy addition to the AUD canon

Return to Form
Revisado: 04-18-24
** I was given a review copy of this audiobook**
Dead Lucky was a return to the anthology format for the Tales series andi have to say it was a welcome one. While the single stories have all been great there's not a lot of meat on the bone for those books and Dead Lucky comes in with a far more substantial word count.
The stories were well done and I was nice to see not only the backstory of one of the newer characters from the main aud series but also the backstory for the characters from the Lockey series. Even better was to see a few returning characters from the earlier tales books
When it comes to the narration I wont lie, I have been very critical of DJ Leone. I do not like him as the voice of the main series. I can't vibe with his interpretations of the classic aud characters and it has been a real struggle for me in the newer main series books. That being said I think he did a very good job on this book. Maybe it was because he was the first person to give voice to most of these characters or maybe it's because he's finally getting comfortable in the roll. Either way I hope he is able to carry this over into the main series going forward.

A birds eye view
Revisado: 03-29-24
*Disclaimer I was given a review copy of this audiobook*
An Ill Wind was an interesting way to show how that day unfolded in the city of Westfield. A hot air balloon pilot watches the world fall apart on "that day"while he floats above on a flight that seems to have evil as the unseen 4th passenger.
It was definitely an interesting story and gives the reader a unique view of how quickly things devolved I to complete chaos on "that day". We have some fan favorite characters mentioned tying this story in to the greater AUD world and even have a few Easter eggs included seeing everyone's favorite national guard unit from a birds eye view.
it's definitely a worthy entry in the AUD universe although I do believe this was the weakest of the tales books that I have read so far. I am also somewhat confused on whete the second story in hete fits in. I dont know if this is from a separate series the author was working on but it doesn't seem to fit in to what we know about the AUD universe. I was hoping the author would have given us some more info in the intro like he has for other books in this series with an additional story included.
That being said I would still recommend this book for fans of the series. Even though I don't rate this as highly as the other entries it is still a great short story and definitely deserves a place in the AUD universe.

Not What I Expected
Revisado: 03-29-24
** Disclaimer I was given a review copy**
When I saw a book was coming out detailing Adrian's adventures on the other side I expected a story detailing the adventures of how Adrian was able to find all the supplies I'm the real world after he woke up. I did not expect a story detailing the pasts of some fan favorite characters that unfortunately didn't make it to the end of the series along with a sneak peak of what the future holds for Adrian and company.
Even though my expectations missed the mark I was still very pleased with how the story unfolds. I think most AUD fans will always be happy to get some more stories with Gilbert. I was also pleasantly surprised with the additional story included detailing how life played out for Spencer, a character introduced in one of the earlier anthology books.
Overall this was definitely a worthy entry in the AUD universe and I would highly recommend it to fans of the series

Very Dark
Revisado: 03-27-24
**disclosure I was given a review copy of this audiobook thete may be mild spoilers ahead**
This was a fairly short story set in the AUD universe. It tells the story behind one of the oddest scenes from the main series where Adrian comes across a shed on his house clearing and finds a horrible scene inside.
Be warned this is a very dark story. While AUD has always been a zombie horror series, at its heart there has always been a light hearted sense of humor woven in and above all a sense of hope. The Shed is not that kind of story.
The Shed is dark from the beginning dealing with themes of loss right from the start. First with the loss of a family member then the loss of a loved one's cognitive abilities and finally with a complete loss of hope.
The story itself is very well done. Even though anyone that has read the main series knows exactly what's about to happen to this family the author is still able to expertly increase the undertones of dread as we get closer and closer to the inevitable climax.
While it lacks the hope of the main series I feel it's still faithful to the story. Not everyone can be Adrian Ring and darkness and despair would have been the story for far too many people after "that day". I would highly recommend it fir anyone that doesn't mind a little darkness and hopelessness in their reading.
The only other thing to note is this is an extremely short book. You will be through it in a couple hours. It is recommended for audible members to simply buy this title outright and save their credit for more expensive audiobooks from the series or from the audible library in general.
