Historia
Both astonishing and prophetic, The Abolition of Man remains one of C. S. Lewis's most controversial works. Lewis sets out to persuade his audience of the ongoing importance and relevance of universal objective values, such as courage and honor, and the foundational necessity of natural law. He also makes a cogent case that a retreat from these pillars of our educational system, even if in the name of "scientism", would be catastrophic. National Review lists it as number seven on their "100 Best Nonfiction Books of the 20th Century".

easy to read and understand. Exceptionally rich in ideas
Revisado: 12-08-24
It's a good place to start my journey into understanding this man's work. It was so rich that I think it merits a second read or probably some interpretation by someone who has a good grasp of the material

Historia
We tend to believe that normality equals health. Yet what is the norm in the Western world? Mental illness is on an unstoppable rise. Some 45 percent of Europeans suffer high blood pressure, and nearly 70 percent of Americans take at least one prescription drug. Illness and trauma are defining how we live. In his new masterpiece, renowned physician, addiction expert and author Gabor Maté dissects the underlying causes of this malaise—physical and emotional, and connects the dots between our personal suffering and the pressures of modern-day living.

Revisado: 03-03-24
Not a whole lot of groundbreaking revelations. But a steading building of a compelling case for how to be healthier. I wish he pressed the contrast with normal more though out the book as the connection with the title was clear but unaddressed until the end

Historia
A classic work of military strategy, On War sets forth the theories and tactics of Carl von Clausewitz, a distinguished Prussian general who was notable for his roles in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The book covers a broad range of topics, including weapons, terrain, troops, and leadership, as well as the importance of defense over offence, the balance of power, and the subordination of war to politics. Praised for its timeless insights, Clausewitz’s treatise is often compared to the work of Machiavelli and Sun Tzu, and remains relevant to military leaders.

A must for students of strategy
Revisado: 07-23-23
It has the best introduction to any book, ever in my opinion. The first two books and the last one are a great read to everyone studying strategy. But the core of the book is only relevant for those studying specifics of war or history. I had to skip those because I couldn't find any value for me.

In an audiobook that challenges everything you thought you knew, W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne assert that tomorrow's leading companies will succeed, not by battling their rivals for market share in the bloody "red ocean" of a shrinking profit pool, but by creating "blue oceans" of untapped new market spaces ripe for growth.

There's a reason why this book is such a classic. My only pushback is that large parts of the book aren't specific to Blue oceans. They're valuable but generic.

Historia
Klein proposes a naturalistic approach to decision making, which views people as gaining experience that enables them to use a combination of intuition and analysis to make decisions. To illustrate this approach, Klein tells stories of people - from pilots to chess masters - acting under such real-life constraints as time pressure, high stakes, personal responsibility, and shifting conditions.

Historia
In his landmark best seller The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell redefined how we understand the world around us. Now, in Blink, he revolutionizes the way we understand the world within. Blink is a book about how we think without thinking, about choices that seem to be made in an instant, in the blink of an eye, that actually aren't as simple as they seem. Why are some people brilliant decision makers, while others are consistently inept?

An easy recommendation for everyone
Revisado: 08-10-22
This book doesn't tell as many things that we didn't already know. it tells us how much we didn't know about them. The extent to which the unconscious decision making had on us is staggering and Malcolm is a master at picking the examples to show it. He also has an optimist twist on it as he shows how this can be turned into advantage with enough will and research

In his most provocative and practical book yet, one of the foremost thinkers of our time redefines what it means to understand the world, succeed in a profession, contribute to a fair and just society, detect nonsense, and influence others. Citing examples ranging from Hammurabi to Seneca, Antaeus the Giant to Donald Trump, Nassim Nicholas Taleb shows how the willingness to accept one's own risks is an essential attribute of heroes, saints, and flourishing people in all walks of life.

Makes a strong case, for a practical idea
Revisado: 05-18-22
Gets an easy 5 because he took an idea that I intuitively believed it, developed it, and demonstrated it brilliantly. I also enjoyed the satirical style. My main takeaways are the lindy effect. I already got another book from the series. Recommended for people who crave the real deal, not some IYI crap
